And now.... tata.... one month later, trying at 550 euros on Chronotrader, and we no longer seem to be certain it's refinished... (well of course it is, in case anyone wondered).

I was quite tempted by the watch when it was being sold by @watchknut , but I knew I would feel uncomfortable wearing it while knowing it was just a beautiful imposter...

I also thought to myself that some buyer might decide to do the very thing that has apparently happened...

Caveat emptor! 😲

More from the wonderland of greed...
Collector wins bid on Ebay Sunday october 15, the gun still smoking, might not have even received the watch (from the same country) and he uses the Ebay pictures to offer the watch with a significant mark up.
No indication that there is proof of service from either sellers.

It's the new trend called "reselling": it mainly involves clothing and shoes, but even watches have become interesting merchandise.

Like you @Syrte , I too confess to feeling somewhat cheesed off by this behaviour.

Nothing much we can do about it I guess, besides calling attention to that large spot between 5 and 6 I guess! 😗

depends if you are a dealer or collector but I don't disagree with you.

I thought this behavior was restricted to the higher end of the market(i.e. Rolex, PP), but it seems to have trickled down to vintage too. No wonder prices are flaming up. So much for my Business Ethics course...

The Instagram gentleman who tried to flip an Ebay watch within 24 hours and with the sellers' own pictures has removed it from his account.
Curious whether he managed to sell it.
He unfollowed me so clearly he saw the discussion here.

Nobody shall stand in the way of making a quick buck from watches.....😲🙁😁

I have been blocked by quite a few IG accounts pointing out that their watches are indeed not horological important...... Greedists do no like that

It is nice to see this kind of behavior nailed to the -virtual- wall. Thanks for this!

I like to point out that NO watch is ever important.
I think people dislike it too but since the comments are impersonal they just think I'm an idiot and I don't get blocked.

A nice story of Longines travel this time.....
You may remember the stupendous tre tacche offered by @GeorgeT11 on the Private sales forum here.
https://omegaforums.net/threads/reduced-longines-tre-tacche-35mm.75211/

Well it changed hands a couple times relatively quickly amongst collectors active on Instagram— from @theydid to @oldblackmachines —but according to its new owner, it has serendipitously landed in Brooklyn 6 blocks away from another just like it, whose serial numbers is only 6 numbers apart.
Screen captures from Instagram members @theydid and @oldblackmachines.

A Longines tank (23mmx 30mm) with a beautiful and unusual art deco steel case sold on Ebay on July 9.
Unfortunately its dial clearly appeared refinished— probably explaining in part its final sale price of 137 euros. The watch in question is now offered for sale on the Instagram account of a dealer - collector.

As we all know, finding and curating collectible watches for a living is work for which one may expect fair compensation.
However one hopes the dial refinishing is being disclosed to prospective buyers.

Shameless. Sold by instagram dealer specialdial for $450. Featured on Hodinkee’s Bring A Loupe last week. Now on EBay at 3x the price.

Is this still up? I don't see it. $1200 is definitely a stretch but I also felt $450 was a pretty good deal.

As luck would have it, I was about 5 minutes too late on my dm to specialdial. Notwithstanding, I was able to pick it up this week from the buyer at a modest markup but nowhere near $1200.

I've sold several watches over the years to various dealers, including a few Longines. The first was a time only cal. 280 that I picked up for $125, sold for $400, and they sold it for $1400. The second was a cal. 285 Flagship Date which I paid $130 for, sold for $250, and they sold it on for $1600. The last was a Longines Classique with an ETA 2895 which I paid $300 for, sold for $400, and they sold it on for $1500. At the end of the day everyone is happy.

Just leave this here:

What is your point ? Any dealer in vintage or antique goods have to make money. Buying at that price, service it (I presume it has been) market it and so forth will leave a margin that is not more than needed to keep the company going, pay wages and tax and invest further. Nice watch and both are fair prices in my view.
