Just want to say hi as I've just joined the forum. A few names I recognise from other places. I started collecting military and pilots watches several years ago and found one day that I had become a Longines collector almost by accident. Over the last few years I've been attracted to these types of Longines and particularly the ones they produced in the Forties and even earlier. This was my first Longines which I bought about over eight years ago. A czech issued pilots watch.
Welcome Ubik. Excellent example well photographed. I remember the first time I handled one of these - I was impressed at how massive it was for a vintage piece.
Thanks Lou. It is a large watch but wears very nicely. If I'm allowed to post an outside link (please delete if not), there's a nice write up of these watches on this website. http://milspectime.com/?p=722
Thanks Dennis. I'm a sucker for old pilots watches. Since you allow the posting of links, here's another really nice one that covers pilots watches from Romania. Not only Longines but Zenith and Omega as well. Some very nice original correspondence and catalogue material. http://www.ceasuripentruromania.ro/ceasuri.php?id_article=21&language=english
Very nice watch and it's in great condition. How big is it? Sure looks substantial on your wrist. And welcome Ubik.
Thanks Gavin. Glad to have found a great dedicated Longines forum. I do have quite skinny wrists! It is a good size watch though, about 41mm without the crown, 52mm from lug to lug and about 14mm high. Baby Panerai.
Yep. You're the first person whose spotted that connection. It was either that or Palmer Eldritch. Thanks for the welcome
...this could lead us into a whole other conversation But that might be a thread hijack which is too extreme even for this forum
Always happy to take this to the Open Discussion forum. I was a big Dickhead in my younger days. Interesting to see how over the last few decades he's really seeped into the mainstream. Cheers.
There are so many places to start that conversation... Why don't you kick something off in the Open Discussion & see where it goes. We might find out that there are a lot more Dickheads round here than we realise
Bonjour Ubik, Very nice Majetek you've got there Looking forward to seeing the rest of your pilot watch collection Best regards - F
