Two weeks ago this one was sold on the bay:

That beauty went from EUR 400ish to a wooping EUR 2213 in the very last minute.

I suppose somebody went crown-crazy.
Probably right. The more of these I see, I think the scalloped crown
is correct for the fish enameled early versions and the button
crown is correct for the later plain caseback.
What do you think?

As usual there's probably some discussion on crowns. That said, I do agree, this is the original crown for this watch with fish c/b

Think I've heard it said that the 'scalloped' crown is very rare.

But has anyone ever seen one on eBay or anywhere else?
I know we can make these but its a very difficult and labour intensive process (by a couple experts here on OF, of course)

As the story goes, the scalloped crown got easily stuck on trousers pockets and snapped off the watches, and that's why Longines changed it to a more normal design.

I would love to have o

Yes, but he can't do the crown in stainless because the way he's making them (in brass) they need plating. Can't plate with stainless.
So... when you see one in stainless, it's original😉

S- here you go. Replacement crown. I've located a scallop crown for it, it has the plain caseback, no fishy.

My guess is that it will become a cult piece like the 13zn and the scallop crown will be required to fetch high numbers. It's an amazingly original and terrific looking design.

I watched the recent one on the 'Bay, the dial was just degraded enough that I didn't go for it, but I reckon in years to come that price will seem a bargain.

Thanks @Rman That's a lovely watch !! Dibs!

And isn't that likely an original (or suitable) crown? IMHO a crown won't turn me off a watch!

It won't turn me off, but I want to be turned on!!😁😗
It doesn't nest over the crown tube completely so there is a gap of a mm or 2... no wings, no Longines, so...no not for me.
I guess the scallop finishes the look for me in this case. But I'd wear one without it. And if it wasn't an auto, I'd probably take the crown with better grip.

I didn't mean there was anything fishy, I was just refloating the lost thread.

And for the crown itself, of course, it is interesting and I would pay a hefty premium for it (actually, I was on the brink of buying a dial, a movement, and the crown, in gold, until I realised it was the wrong gold for my watch).

But in the specific case of the SS power reserve that sold two weeks ago, I feel that there has to be better specimens for a better price.

In any case, I also believe this Conquest (the power reserve with the multipronged crown) shall become the reference piece of that period Longineses.

May I suggest that one as a gap filler?
