Probably obvious.
Does one use the watch sales forum rather than the private sales forum to announce an eBay listing of a non Omega watch?

The rules state:

Ads NOT following these guidelines will be deleted immediately.
  • Include 3 (or more) current photos that are at least 1024 pixels wide. Bigger is better and will sell your item
  • Photos should only be hosted on Omega Forums, not Photobucket or other services
  • Photos should be of the actual watch in your possession only.
  • Include a price, (including currency ie. USD/EUR/AUD) and a description. A realistic buy it now price must be included. ALL relevant info and specifications must be within your ad.
  • Only one watch per sales thread
  • Absolutely NO fakes or "homage" (mimic) watches
  • Linking to your eBay auction is OK, provided the above conditions are met first. Linking to your eBay auctions in non watch sales threads is not OK.
  • etc.
So that final bullet point seems to suggest it's ok to create a listing in Private Sales to link to an eBay auction as long as you meet those other requirements. However, I don't really understand it, because if you have an eBay auction, how can you also have a fixed price on OF? You can't cancel an eBay auction if someone buys the watch on OF. I never thought about this eBay auction thing before, maybe @dsio can clarify.

I think maybe it would make more sense if the eBay listing were a BIN, not an auction. I know that people do that all the time, but they just create separate listings, no need to "announce" the eBay listing. After all, why promote an eBay BIN listing which will just involve eBay fees. If someone wants to buy it from you directly, that's better.

My understanding (I’ve only bought, never sold) is that 'Watch Sales' is for 'member dealers' who regularly post watches for sale and that ‘Private Sales' (and the postings appear in 'Latest') is for member non-dealers who occasionally want to sell on the odd watch 😀.

No doubt I’ll be corrected if I’ve got it wrong.

I thought that when the watch sold on eBay it would be like it was withdrawn or sold here, same as any other sale.
The alternative, if the watch does not sell on greedBay, then I would end the listing there, although I think auctions roll over it has been decades since I sold anything there.

I figured that if the watch parts did not sell after a few months here I would sell them on eBay. There are some other watches i am downsizing that would probably do better there as they are not Omega. But there might be interest anyway.

still have not figured out what OHPF stands for On Hold Pending ? (Formalities?)

Make the for sale post entertaining, for bonus points.

Compliant with the rules would be better, we still have to ask people to re-do things on a pretty regular basis

Yes, I think you can. I see regularly auctions that disappear while bid upon. It usually states afterwards that there was an error in the listing, or some excuse like that. Often on hot items, meaning the seller probably got a parallel offer he couldn't resist, probably skirting eBay fees.

Unfortunately sellers can cancel an auction on eBay even after the end of the auction. Extremely frustrating obviously (if you’ve won an auction) but there seems very little done by eBay to stop the practice - seller can provide a dubious reason for cancelling the transaction.

You can do it fraudulently. But I don't think that's something we would want to promote.

Yes, this just happened to a co-worker with a Barry Bonds rookie baseball card. Sold for $300 which was a really great deal for my buddy and then all of a sudden the seller cancelled the auction and claimed they "were damaged prior to shipment". Mhm, sure they were.

I told him to keep an eye out an report him if it's relisted.

Many years ago I won a lot of circa 20 sealed Beach Boys CDs which apparently were subsequently stolen from the seller…

I was thinking more when the watch did not sell at auction on eBay and it was listed here.

I did link one of the test autctions to a listing here that has not had any interest for a month.

The other watch I am practically giving away, more for feedback than anything else. No real point in listing it here as it is well outside the focus of these forums. I did show it on the Tos chat, which suggested it would be better listed on eBay to see if there is any interest.

Seems like BIN is probably the best way to go in the future. Provided the watch is fairly priced.

Selling is something I do not enjoy doing. Still I do need to downsize some of the stuff that does not fit my collecting profile or I have too many of.
