Limited edition Speedmaster - how important is the box?

    Hi guys,

I have the chance to pick up a 35th Panda Speedy.

Everything checks out. Recent service paperwork and parts, serial cards and the caseback number matching the certificate of authenticity... But... It doesnt come with the correct box.

Is this a deal breaker? How much is a box worth (big questions in life)? I'm not intending on selling it and it wont be a safe-queen.

If you're not selling and its not a safe queen I'd just go ahead with it and use the lack of box as a means to negotiate on price, it means some collectors wouldn't want it, but for your purposes (and mine too frankly, I'd not have a problem if it were to be worn) its simply an opportunity to get a slightly better deal.

Boxes can always be bought separately if you later decide you want one.

Mine came in a similar situation . It has all of the warranty cards, the patch, literature etc, but it was sold in a fancy Omega wood box by the dealer as a perk for the buyer. The factory box was was then kept at the dealers until he eventually misplaced it
Annoyed me, but really no big deal. Dealers had to pay separately of the fancy boxes, so they were only given out for certain customers or by paying extra.

    Darren,
Nice to hear from you again my friend. Remember the Speedy Soyuz box you sent me? I sent it to Jakarta through Royal mail on July 12th to lighten my baggage load. It just arrived 3 days ago in Jakarta. Almost 2 months !!! I thought it's already lost.

I don't know how special 35th panda box is. Some limited edition has very nice box that you will really miss it ( 1957 for example), some other not so ( moon to mars is just common red omega box that yo could buy exact box replica for usd 60).
Looking at your situation, I guess it is not that important. You may knock usd 100 to 300 for missing LE box from normal price.

Just my two penny'th but as a limited edition, isn't the whole set part of the "limited". As a daily wearer though it would seem to be a good buy and with a missing, individual part of the set, you should be able to beat the seller up severely on the price.

Hi All, thanks with the above and sorry for the late reply. I ended up going with it because i intend on being a wear-watch (and the price was good).

That's the upsetting thing. I'm in Melbourne, watch is in Singapore. Ive got a friend who is a watch-guy doing the pickup and $$$ exchange. But i wont get it till i go to Singapore next... So just waiting on Jetstar to have their next sale and me and the gf will head over for the weekend. Kills me!

I like singapore and we want to spend a few days at the zoo/marine park and eating, so i'm not complaining :)

I already got a Speedy Pro Moonphase, next on the list is the 35th Soyuz - i'll give it a couple of years though.

Need to add a Calibre 321 at some point too for some historical variety ;) The Soyuz is a crazy cool dial though.

I'd love one, but having recently nearly pulled the trigger on a 1964 SM300 it seems that vintage watches are a nightmare. I have been keeping my eye out for one though :)

Ah you might have been a bit unlucky, I had a SM300 that was almost cursed or something, but my Calibre 321 is sublimely reliable, as are most of the vintage Omegas!
