I bought a load of catalogs and other stuff in an auction recently, and leafing through a load of Tissot parts guides, came across this letter which I though might be of interest to some members here
Cool, thanks for sharing! I have two questions: - What is an UNO watch - and what are the other catalogs Best Nico
Here are some https://thewatchforum.co.uk/index.php?/topic/117492-uno-watches/ and another https://www.antiques-atlas.com/antique/gents_1950s_uno_wrist_watch/as170a7979
Great post OP, but that last statement in the final paragraph is fundamentally wrong. No one can say that “there is absolutely no danger to wearers”. Radiation exposure is a bit like overtaking on a blind bend. You could do it 10,000 times and be fine, but 1 more time and you could get hit. Likewise you could get hit the very first time you do it. You could be fine with the 30 years cosmic background radiation but then get cancer from that tiny bit of lume radiation. It’s low risk of course, and quite a bit less risk than the additional radiation from a transatlantic flight, but the fact remains that their statement is wrong. Great history to the letter though, I think I’d frame it in my office if I was you
Here's some more on Uno, it seems to have been a make owned by Dimier Brothers who sent that letter, and there is a connection with Tissot too. From Mikrolisk:
ALL KINDS of stuff... Like a set of numbered (1 - 23) of these Ebauches SA technical guides: ... along with old catalogues for parts, price lists and so on... ranging from the early 1950s to early 70s, mostly: and covering a variety of brands including a decent chunk on Tissot. Anyone recognise this movement?
