Another addition to the collection - a 1949 2493 reference in a rose gold capped case and with very uncommon raised arabic numerals and leaf hands. This is not a well documented subject but I believe these hands are original to 2493/2494 refs with these raised arabic numerals.. and oddly it seems only this marker style. I can create a thread on the subject if others are interested.

. Ours are very similar, both with leaf hands and raised Arabic numerals. However I note the difference in the way the numerals are placed around the dial - I wonder what the reason for this is. I doubt in either case they are necessarily evidence of a redial, as one would suspect that any self respecting redial-er would replace the numerals in their correct positions…!

Very cool, thanks for sharing. I’ve seen your exact variant with leaf hands too. There are also versions without the full arabic but with even-only arabic numerals with dots where the odd numerals would be.

I imagine that because yours is gold because its more dressy, and so having the numbers follow the curve of the face is a bit more aesthetically pleasing in that instance.

Also - what calibre is yours running? Mine has a 342 bumper in it (as opposed to a 332).

Just wondering if someone can chime in on this - my watch has a serial number 1190xxxx dating it to late 1949, and is a bumper auto 342 cal, reference 2493.

Looking on the Omega website at their page on the 2493 they list it as having a 332 cal. Is there a chance this is a mismatched case and movement, or is there simply a chance this configuration was made in some numbers?

I have applied for an extract from Omega which should hopefully answer these questions - however part of me is wondering whether I should have just included the movement serial number, leaving them to locate the case reference… however I imagine if they find a mismatch they would probably let me know. Thanks in advance!

Mine is a 332. My personal opinion is that your watch is probably fine. Or worst case some parts of the movement were swapped at some point, but the serial is about right so I’d speculate not a full movement swap. Definitely speculation of course.

Here is my OT 2519 with 333 caliber.

Is that the one that’s just sold on an UK auction a few weeks ago? Looks great!

Thank you! I bought it from my watchmaker in Paris who has not given me any information about where he had sourced this watch. Should you have any detail on similar watches sold recently, do not hesitate to share!-)

Here is my 2494-3/2657. Unfortunately its gold plated case which was strange to me at first but found few other examples. 😀

Not sure if it’s a problem on my end, but I can’t see pictures.

By the way, that’s not a “double ref”, just a double stamped case back as the cases were identical for both refs. 2494 is the center second version, 2657 the small second. Similar to what we regularly see with 2648/2848s, for example.
