As we all know, watch photography is tough for many reasons. I am developing quite the passion for photography, but still have a lot to learn. I own a Nikon Z50 and am looking for a macro lens It should be used/vintage, does not need to very fast, and can be Z or F mount. The main use would be macro/close-up photography, but also used for product images- photos for selling items on Ebay, among other things. What do you guys think? budget: no more than $400, but ideally less than $200.

I've never seen this before. Do these thread on to give you magnification? What lens would you pair it with?

 

At 40mm you would need to get too close and you either block your light source, or scare away what you are trying to photograph. I think a macro prime in the 85- 105mm would be ideal.

 

As above, I use it on the RX1 like a "filter". No experience on other lenses.... Guess on 28 up to 50 ????
The main problem with macro: you have to close the aperture to get a good depth of field.

 

Oh I see, this is a point and shoot. I do have an RX100 also, but there are some vintage F- mount Nikon lenses that should work for what I need.

 

You mentioned eBay. Ever try using a 100mm lens to take eBay pictures? Especially using a crop frame camera?

 

For F mount, I could recommend Nikon AF Nikkor 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5 D Zoom Macro for budget option, or 105mm fixed Nikon AF MICRO NIKKOR 105mm f/2.8 D Macro, AF-S version could be out of your desired budget. I have both of them(for 105mm though the new version AF-S) and they are good lenses (for my Nikon DF).

 

I am shooting my watches with Fuji X-T4 and Laowa 65mm macro lens. That cost me 350EUR.
The lens is good and is manual focus. Sometimes I miss having longer, like 80+ mm macro.
I don't need AF for macro.
You can also find some vintage macro lenses on ebay. I've taken some photos with Takumar 85/1.8 + extension tube.

Hi, I am brand new to the forum. I am a photographer and happy to answer any photography questions. For Macro photography I have a Nikon D850 with a Nikon Micro 60mm f2.8. It's been great. The thing I find most useful for macro photography if shooting on a tripod is a good macro rail. It makes small adjustments much more precisely. I use a vintage novoflex, and have found the cheap ones just don't work. Anyway just my 2 cents.
