Hi all,

Looking to finally purchase my dream watch in Japan and am curious on your thoughts on this 2531.80? I've been trying to get as much hands on time with Seamasters of this era as I could, but still hard for me to pick up the nuances. Many thanks in advance for anyone's help!

Legit but a nick at the 7 o’clock lug that would put me off—especially for a mass produced easy to find piece like this. Why settle?

The gouge on the 7 o'clock lug is not good. That would be a deal killer for me. It looks deep enough that the only way to make it go away is to get the case laser welded, which is not a cheap and easy process. Making it worse, that's the lug you most see if you wear the watch on your left wrist.

Other comments:

  • The case is obviously refinished. Not a terrible job but not to Omega standards.
  • I would check to see how the watch is running. It's a model from the late 90's, early 00's. It might be in need of an immediate service.
  • I would check to see when the gaskets were last changed. If that is not known, was the watch pressure tested? If not, I would not trust the watch in the water.

That is not the mid size 36mm model. It is the full size 41mm auto 2531.80 as per the OP. The middie auto has a different PIC and no space for a lume block by the date window.

Edited. I was thinking the title said 2551.80. But it's not.
