Hi all,

I’m heading to Milan and Rome shortly, and hope to pick up a quality Italian leather strap (or two) while I’m there.

If anyone has any shop or brand recommendations, I’d love to hear them.

I was just in Rome and I looked all over for straps. I did not find anything.
Plenty of watches and belts. No watch straps unfortunately.

Thanks for the reply. Hopefully Milan is a better hunting ground. If I do find any, will share them here.

In Rome you have GLC straps only by appointment.
https://www.glcstraps.it/contatti/

But otherwise it seems to me the most well-known makers of straps in Italy nowadays don’t have bricks and mortars facilities,
In general I would suggest walking into watch stores and jewelery shops.

My most enjoyable strap shopping experiences in Europe were in neighborhood shops away from the touristy and affluent areas, where they sometimes had nice straps for good value.
But it really depends what type of straps you’re looking for, and for what type of watches.

In Milan there’s the thread below for vintage in Milan, also a jewelery and watch shop on the left side of the big plaza in front of the Duomo.

the makers below are well known but sell on the internet:
-for vintage style check out @torrestraps on Instagram,
-more generally there’s the maker once sold through Hodinkee and Fratello, Jean-Paul Menicucci
https://www.jeanpaulmenicucci.com/contacts/

Finally if you really want walk-in strap shops, the ultimate shopping place would be Paris 😉

Atelier du Bracelet Parisien 30 Pl. du Marché Saint-Honoré in the 1st

Concurring and adding:
Camille Fournet rue Cambon in the 8th (not far from Jean Rousseau and Atelier du Bracelet parisien)
Atelier du Bracelet Parisien is a treasure trove- you cannot miss it if you like watch straps, even though it’s quite pricey. They have hides all over the place, disco colored stingray, frog skin, legal imports of elephant skins and hippo, alligator NATO straps- you name it.

Other good places:
Scarlett —rue Godot de Mauroy in the 9th
KenClara rue Bayen in the 17th - Porte Maillot area

Oh, and wait, how could I forget - the ultimate maker of high end leather goods aka Hermes, 24 rue du Faubourg Saint-Honore, also 8th arrondissement and not so far from ABP.

Good evening folks.

So as far as straps go, you were right about Milan. Not much in the way of options.

I did find one gem in the form of a family run business that has been a Zenith distributor for more than 100 years: "Orologeria Gioielleria Sangalli dal 1900" - https://maps.app.goo.gl/N9HfRvnQ6uBWKazM7

They had a nice display of Zenith watches dating back to the 1930s, some available for purchase, and a couple of pocket watches from the 1920s. They also sell camille fournet straps, but none in the colour I was searching for.

Orologeria Ceriani also has straps, but nothing I would describe as high-end. They do ha e some nice vintage watches for sale though. Including a serviced JLC from 1940. No history records though: https://maps.app.goo.gl/QYm3FM6ybfmPLGdx8
