Yeah, very heavy indeed.
I love leather bags and the vintage Coach I showed earlier in the thread is stunning- but weighs more than the contents I put in it! After years of carrying heavy camera bags on my left shoulder, I have developed some sort of pinched rotator or tendon problem from the shoulder so the elbow- comes with the job I guess (every photographer over the age of 50 I know gets it), so the lighter I can go the better.

I travel for my job and I have found canvas is better than leather for that reason. My bag of choice is an old Royal Navy issue grip holdall. Canvas trimmed with leather.

For work I carry the old Coach brief case I posted earlier in the thread. For travel I carry a canvas Orvis bag similar to the one above. I do find canvas to be much lighter and to wear very well. Mine is a light weight canvas and it has lasted well over thirty years, as it was my grandmother's overnight bag before it became mine.

I have a couple different Saddleback products. They are exceptionally nice and very well-made.

Another vote for Saddleback - incredibly well made. I believe that their slogan is: “They’ll fight over it when you’re dead” and I expect that’s probably true. I have a leather backpack of theirs that I received as a gift 15 years ago and have used every day since then. Still good as new.

Colonel Littleton also makes some really, really nice bags that are sure to be conversation starters.

A good leather messenger bag is definitely a solid investment, especially if you want something that will last 20+ years and age well. Full-grain leather is the way to go, it develops a nice patina over time and holds up much better than top-grain or bonded leather. Since you're carrying a laptop daily, you might also want to look for one with reinforced stitching and a padded compartment.
So what the AI post here?

Necro a thread with AI slop?

IVE BEEN USING TIMBUK2 ballistic nylon MESSENGER/LAPTOP BAGS FOR DECADES. crap caplock.
one saved my life in an accident where it was me and my bike VS. a speeding flower delivery truck, I'm still here and I've been loyal since.
they are a bit trendy, if you were looking for a little sophistication and leather, maybe keep looking.
i have my original from 1998 still and its still in useable, albeit worn with roadrash, good shape....
