I am looking for a new motor for my Derbyshire watchmakers lathe. The motor that came with it isn't strong enough.

Can any members recommend a suitable motor??

I has a modern sewing machine motor on my lathe but upgraded after I found a vintage English made beast in a junk shop.

This is the sewing machine motor.

It's yours if you want to try it out, PM me your details. It seemed to work OK for me but I never did any really heavy work with it.

Other than that, try something from a water pump or other high torque application where the motor can be salvaged and re-used.

I’ve actually seen people fabricate parts to attach to the front chuck on kitchen aid mixers- the older Hobart ones are tanks and can grind almost anything. Take the head off the stand and there ya go.
Oh- and they are a breeze to rebuild and parts are still available from kitchenaid. Genius motor and drive train when you take them apart. I’ve rebuilt 2. They only have one plastic gear in them which is intended to fail if you over-drive the motor, and is an easy replacement.

Then the two-stage supercharger model should meet sir's needs.

Does sir have 130 octane fuel available, and lots of it?
