I've been looking for one of these for a while and bought this today. I'm new to military watches so hope everything's ok. I think only 5900 were made for 1 year so quite rare. Omega 2777-1 SC Fat Arrow. Movement 283, serial 13056793 dating it to '53. Caseback is stamped 6645 101000 6b/542 4723/53. 6B=RAF, 542=PILOTS WATCH, no 4723/5900, 53= year of production. 37mm case is in great shape and to me looks unpolished..fixed bars are nice and solid. Caseback and dustcover correct although it is missing the doohickey which i believe are hard to find. The tritium dial is in good shape with a few tiny pit marks around 10-11. Plots have aged to a nice tan colour. Hands look original and have aged to a similar colour. One small chip to the hour hand. Crown looks original to me... correct me if i'm wrong. Crystal has a few small scratches that will polish out The movement looks super clean although one screw is missing near the main wheel. Soon off to Mr Freese for a clean up and tinker. I hope it's pretty much correct....any comments welcomed. Thanks.
Thanks chaps... yep 37mm is fine. I've tried to get on with 35mm but they are just a bit too small for me. @BlueBoy Coys 3-1 !
Looks great! Here is a recent write up (don't know if you saw it): https://shop.hodinkee.com/blogs/journal/omega-reference-2777-1-for-the-raf the watch was listed here: https://shop.hodinkee.com/products/...military-reference-2777-1?variant=21939885060
Great looking piece - love the dial. Are you missing the inner retention ring? @Fattony - that thin arrow is gorgeous.
Interesting read... Thanks for that, I hadn't seen it. I do agree they are cool watches but i am slightly bias at the the moment
Looks good, may be missing the doohicky (retention ring) as I don't see it pictured. If so, there is a good guy on MWR who makes/sells these. Very nice example!
Hi Nice example of a MoD redial RAF 53 AKA " The FAT ARROW" .... looks like your missing a movement screw ... and as other mention retaining ring for the nun metal inner cap... saw the cap... ... with out the retaining ring the inner mag cap would made your watch act like a baby rattle.... From memory, so I am happy to be corrected, there were 5900 in total delivered in three batches (three production runs). The first run is the "Thin Arrow" that was issued, then recalled and had the dial replaced by the MOD (or JLC). Not clear if the later runs had a thin arrow dial or were fat arrow from the start.
