Hello friends, here is a new member of my Connie family: Ref.168.005, SS,red gold hands and markers,cal.561,near mint condition....
Magnificant! Only just seen this post, how did I miss it?? Very clean and desirable connie, good job! Edit: No, I had seen it. But it's even more beautiful on a Big Mac screen!
168005 model always have dial hardware color matching the gold capped portion and the medallion on back ================ that one could be a SS constellation with dial hardware dipped in pink gold coming from the East.
Not too familiar with the 168.005 variations. But Reiners doesn't have the onyx inserts, possible later variation?
Hi hoipolloi ,Alex and John R.Smith, the Ref.168.005 Connies were produced in SS,gold top and 14 bzw.18 Karat gold. The SS watches had white gold hands and markers or pink or yellow gold markers with lume or onyx. Please look at the website Old Omegas.com: "An UK catalogue from 1964" and look at the pics of the Ref.168.005 in SS. Here you see gold hands and markers in gold!!! in a SS Connie. It`s not good for me to assume, that my watch is a marriage of a SS version with a dial that belongs to a gold top or gold version!!! My watchmaker who had an Omega concession for more than 60 years confirmed that he had sold SS Connies Ref.168.005 with golden hands and markers in the sixties! Please send me an answer, Reiner
I think there's no question 168.005 came with white gold, yellow gold or pink gold markers. What I have typically seen is that if the watch had YG or PG markers, the medallion reflected the color of the markers. I don't think one can say with certainty this was the case in all instances and OP's watch looks legit to me.
Thanks Alex, do you know, that Omega produced SS Connies with yellow or pink gold hands and markers? Do you have one or more? Look also in the book "A journey through the time"! My watch is in perfect overall condition ,that means dial, case and movement. Why should someone change the dial, when all is nearly untouched? Reiner
I have one connie with RG markers and steel case, not near the condition of yours, here is my humble 2852...
Normally, the dial hardware color should match the color of the medallion on back and gold capped portions of lugs, bezel (we are talking about 168005, not 2852 Alex) If you have a chance to visit a dip shop, you will see how easy to change those dial hardware from SS to pink gold or whatever they want.... hands and crowns ,too. And I know that in very near future those frankened watches will be used as proof of originality against me
