Ladies Omega, royal connection?

I purchased this ladies watch from a car boot sale about 15 years ago for about £50. I had it serviced by a friend of mine and it’s ran perfectly ever since. I gave it to my wife as a present and she does wear it occasionally. It’s 9ct gold and has the original Omega gold buckle. It is engraved on the back with the royal cypher ER and the date 14th Oct 1965. I have wondered if it was presented to a royal family employee on their retirement. I also wonder how it found it’s way to a car boot sale near Manchester.

That is a pretty generic font for ER, not the specific Royal Cypher IMO. Prob belonged to an Edith Roberts or similar! It is usually styled as E II R anyhow.

Cheers. I never noticed that. So it’s just a watch belonging to someone with those initials. Thanks, mystery solved.

It is actually pretty close to the ER monogram of the Queen Mother, Elizabeth I who was still around and had her own household in 1965, but yea Edith Roberts is also just as likely.

Liz one didn’t start wearing a watch until 1965. She received it for her 432nd birthday.

I’m sure there’s a photo of it somewhere 😉

The I was a typo, I was referring to the Queen mother Elizabeth who was 65 in 1965, the above was her monogram

But she did have one. Mary had the well know skull watch, but it was thought E.I was the first to have a watch mounted into a bracelet. Not sure if H.VIII had one in a ring. One of the Gerorges or other comparable royal had a music box and watch in a ring. I got to hold that one once. Incredible engineering. Such were usually diplomatic gifts. Multiples were often made so it is unclear if the royal actually wore it or not.

That was Mary Queen of Scots, not Mary I of England daughter of Henry VIII and half-sister of Elizabeth I. You think rocket science is complicated -- nothing compared to royal successions in England and Scotland.

Just curious, why would you think generic initials on a watch would have any Royal connection?
Wishful thinking? Dreaming? You may have well used the dreaded “Prototype”.
