·Available today is my King Seiko 4402-8000 dating to ~1966.
The KS 4402-8000 was the first reference released that follows Taro Tanaka's "Grammar of Design" aesthetic in 1964. Due to its popularity, the design was adopted by Grand Seiko in 1966 to launch the "44GS" line that continues to this day.
Condition is 'King'! I am confident that it has never been polished; it has razor sharp lugs, the hands and markers really pop with the 'Zaratsu' polishing, clear factory lines and shows signs of careful wear for it's 54 years of use.
The one mark of note is a modest nick on the bezel oriented at about the 27 minute marker. It's quite minor, I've done my best to capture in photos below, but want to be sure it's been disclosed.
This example has the rarer King Seiko "Shield" medallion on the case back. These are frequently damaged, but this one is in great shape and is a solid gold disc bonded to the stainless steel.
Possessing a 35mm diameter (minus the crown), it wears much larger on the wrist due to the large dial and narrow bezel with a 42mm lug-to-lug width that gives it a considerable presence.
The watch was serviced in June 2017 in Seattle, WA, when it was also fitted with a NOS crystal. A top performer, it is running at +4 seconds / day with a strong amplitude, it has many years of use before needing to be serviced again.
Powered by the Seiko caliber 4402A, this is a hand wind, hacking, 25 jewel, 18,000bph movement. It is a chronometer graded watch, and despite not being printed on the dial, the six-digit chronometer designation is stamped on the movement.
To complete this watch, I tracked down a vintage strap and a reference correct KS buckle (these alone regularly sell for ~$145 on eBay).
Photos are unedited, please consider them part of the sales description.
The movement is pristine and keeping great time (apologies for the blurry photo - it is from servicing in 2017 - chronometer designation below '25 Jewels').
