It can look that way because it's a matte black, it has a tendency to absorb the light, rather than reflect it. The sub has a very glossy dial and reflects the light However, the Planet Ocean will only look like that when it is hit with very bright, direct light. All other times it looks dark black. I like the matte black ability to have different looks depending on the lighting. As you can see in this pic, the dial looks dark black, even though its in the afternoon and no clouds in the sky. When I get a chance I will take a few pics outside, side by side, with the sub.
Appreciate the reply, I'm aware that it won't look as washed out in all light conditions but will do in most scenarios with overhead light (including sunny weather when not in the shade). It's something I appreciate with lacquer dials/ceramic dials, they look proper black in all light conditions, regardless how harsh/strong the light is or direction it's coming from.

Looks good on your wrist though, glad you like it.

Went to my local boutique to check these out. They had all 3 colorways in both bracelet & straps. Not a fan of the huge bracelet clasp and came home with the black one on rubber. The blue is nice but I already have a blue Fifty Fathoms. The orange is cool but I wouldn’t wear it nearly as much as the black.

The only bad news in my opinion is the bezel action - it is pretty coarse and loud. Not as good as my SMP's and definitely not in the Blancpain FF or GO SeaQ neighborhood. The rubber strap is quite comfy and the adjustment holes are closer together than usual, so excellent fit. The texture on the center section of the strap is quite attractive and an upgrade from the usual Omega rubber strap design.

The winding feel is stiffer than normal for my SMP's and similar in resistance to my Zenith Chronomaster.

Had a look today at the blue bezel and black bezel ones, as the orange is not really my thing.

They were fully stickered so couldn't really try out the bezel action, but I did give them a few winds. The blue bezel one for the first couple of turns was a bit stiffer than I would've expected, but after was very smooth, can't say if smoother than my SMPs, but definitely smooth. The black bezel was smooth from the get go.

I'm wondering if there's some variance between production models?

Thanks, and I do agree. A glossy dial will usually have a deeper black appearance than a matte dial. I like the look of both. I grabbed a few pics outside today, although it was overcast, to again show the difference between a matte and glossy dial. And having owned the watch for a few days, I believe in most situations, except for direct bright light, the dial will not look washed out. Although, as stated, it will definitely look different than the glossy dial. And I like your pic with the two Planet Oceans.

On wrist, tried to take pic at same angle.

I’m curious about the clasp size comparison of both watches. Could you show a photo of the sub and po with the clasp side by side?

Here are some pics of the clasps.
Side by Side

And here is a view of how each clasp operates. The Rolex has the Glidelock clasp, and the Omega has a push button. In my opinion, the push button clasp is easier to operate, but the Glidelock is a bit more elegant. As you can see, not matter how you adjust the Glidelock, on wrist, you will only see links protruding from the clasp. With the Omega push button you will see a bar extending from the clasp.

And here is the Omega on wrist. There are six different stops for the adjustment. I am wearing it on the first, so I have a choice of making the bracelet more loose or tighter.

And a view of how they sit on wrist. First the Rolex and then the Omega

Is the black PO on the right the 39.5 mm or the 43.5 mm?

39.5, below you can see the 43.5mm

Thanks! Do you happen to have more pictures of the new PO next to the 39.5? How to the two compare size wise (dial, case etc.)?

Just the below where you can actually see them side by side.

The new PO is bigger in all regards apart from dial size (I think they're identical or really close when it comes to this) and the case looks broaderaround the outer lugs.

Think of it as and inbetween size, which it basically is.

Here's a very quick and dirty overlay, don't know if it gives you the proper idea of size difference

Congrats!! I absolutely love the design language. I really hope they have a pipeline to move the angular elements to the 300. Love it.

Went into my (London) boutique last night to have a look at the new PO's in person. Suffice to say that I walked out with a new orange version on the bracelet (and with the black rubber strap on order). My first ever Omega was a 1st edition PO in black but which I sold a while back as at 45mm it really was too big these days. The PO's haven't caught my attention since until this one. Wasn't 100% sure from the photos but in person, for me, it carries enough of the PO line but something nicely different that really appealed.

Kicked myself for not going with the orange bezel version way back in 2008, so it was the obvious choice this time around.

Really like the angular look. Size wise it fits really well on my wrist. I actually think the bezel vs dial size is spot on. I don't find the clasp too big at all and it appears to be super highly engineered. I get the extension isn't that nice to look at but in reality I'll only ever have it clicked out one position max and even then rarely so it's no issue to me. Don't mind the PCL either - I intend to have this as a real daily wearer so expect they will get worn in pretty quick to the extent I won't worry about scratches.

Interestingly my usual SA said the orange on orange rubber strap was selling best right now. Also liked the look of the blue bezel version but the colour combo would always make me think of the Crown brand so it would never be a choice for me. The orange I associate more with the PO line anyway.

Not the best early wrist shot but I couldn't not post something.

When you get a chance, can you take a pic of the lume. I am curious to see if the bezel is lumed like their other orange versions.

It's not, only the pip. They cheaped out instead of making that the standard
