Just got my father and grandfather's watches

I am in Seattle visiting and my father just gave me his old Relide as well as his father's Omega Seamaster quartz! He even had the original box and paperwork. As a bonus my grandfather's watch was a touch snug and as it turns out the extra link was in an envelope with the other documentation.

I am interested in thoughts regarding servicing the Omega, it is a quartz but I just want to see if it is something to consider. The Relide needs a new band and will also get a service soon, though it is running and keeping time at the moment.

Both sentimental pieces; both will benefit from the servicing. Even a quartz needs it, especially since timekeeping can be regulated, the jewels and case can be cleaned, and the gaskets can be changed to ensure it keeps out water.

So special and cool! Unless you plan on adding the quartz to your regular rotation, just pull the battery out (so it doesn't leak). Then on down the road you could get it serviced for wear.

To be honest I love them both but the Relide is a bit more interesting to me. As I recally my aunt won it when she was around 12 years old and traded it to my dad who was probably 14 at the time as she thought it was to masculine. Well he is 74 now and it looks amazing. I believe Relide was a department store brand in Australia where he grew up but it does have a Swiss made notation on the dial. Says Super Marine, 21 jewels, incabloc, nivaflexspring....a very cool watch IMHO, even without the family connection.

According to Mikrolisk, Relide was a brand of the manufacturer Walter Triebold, of Rheinfelden, Switzerland. Registered on Sept 25 1937. Here's a Relide featured in a 1950's advert:

Stopped by a local watchmaker's shop to grab a cheap temporary band for the Relide and had him open it up......very clean!

The Omega runs with a new battery but the time set feature isn't working so we removed it until I can get it serviced properly.

So I decided to have the Omega serviced, it is a 1337 movement but my watchmaker says he can get parts (he has an Omega account).

Also I found out the Relide has an ETA 2370 movement which my watchmaker says is one of his favorite.
