Crikey, I hope and trust this dial is genuine . My first reaction was "redial" but I could see nothing incriminating and assumed the real experts would find the flaw.
Apparently not it seems to fall into the accepted variations category.
An amazing looking piece , congratulations . The best I have ever seen.

Well at first glance I thought you used your time machine to visit my beautiful hometown Darmstadt in the 1940's haha.

But I'd doubt you would've found this amazing UG there. You have truly a great collection of UG watches. Always looking forward to see your posts!

Cheers.

So the customer had the indices changed. Jeweler sad (in French) “But you will cover the numbers! Customer said (in French) “I don’t care “ ... everyone was happy. Then it went into a sock drawer at somebody point and now Florent owns it.

Dial controversy aside, it's a beautiful watch. Appropriate to wear at The Hemmingway Bar, congratulations!

That one is an egregious redial.

for reference:
Here are a couple dials with indeces from my collection ! Some spacing between indeces and arabic numerals on these two !

How someone can even think this is not an original UG dial is beyond me, but I agree the forum is here to discuss and discussions would not exist without conflicting opinions so be it.

Also, for the 1000th time: dials DO NOT have anything to do with references in UG. Only the combination case material/case shape/movement does. ANY period correct dial/hands combination could have been chosen by the client for a given references.

Finally, UG tolerances on dials were far greater than let's say Patek or Vacheron at the time, given their massive volume of production (and dear I say price point): hence imperfections and inconsistencies are well known and documented and should not surprise if within acceptable levels. And this dial falls right into that category. It is magnificent and I congratulate the owner for such an incredible find!

I would love to have a Tri-Compax with such a great dial, but because I and @Oku made some questions, does not means I am envy, hate, jealous....
I believe this forum exists to share passion, knowledge, expertise, plural and different opinions.
@Florent, whom I do not know personally but based on the quality of the watches he posts here frequently must be much more experience in UG than I am, and to his pleasure he could find such a vintage watch with a pristine dial.
I agree that dial thicks most of the boxes to be considered original, as it may be, but I also consider that no one can hide that there are some questions that can arise from the previous posts.
We are commenting on a watch made in the 40's, so some incongruencies might exist.
I have never seen before the 30 overlapping the hour subdial, or the misalignment in the date windows, but again might be just that I am being to focus on small details
Anyway and again congrats @Florent for this find, particularly and also with the box.

Thanks everyone for your kind words about the piece 😀
To me, the pleasure of collecting watches also come from the joy to share them with other collectors ...

I would like to thank @Oku, @jsflog, and other members for their intensive research for flaws on this dial.
You guys are so demanding and hard to convince. This level of exigence gives more credibility to the originality of the dial ...

I considered your opinions and I find out that, according to all the others UG collectors I know and even M. Sala himself, the printing of the dial is documented and completely original. Overlapping 30 and not centered subdials are both documented in the archives of the manufacturer. As @Mlafra said, "hence imperfections and inconsistencies are well known and documented and should not surprise if within acceptable levels".

Concerning the overlapping indexes, two explanations are likely ... Firstly, first documented dial with overlapping original indexes. Second, custom-made dial for a client, by UG or another jeweler, with bigger indexes, that are too big and so overlap the scale.

Anyway, this piece still a perfectly mint 1949 Tri Compax, almost untouched and probably worn a dozen of time. According to @Diabolik, the piece must have been stored for almost 70 years in a temperature and humidity controlled environment.

My next challenge is to find a better piece than this one ... Because the next one is always the best 😉

Cheers,
Florent

I can understand why the discourse here might seem heated to a newcomer. However no one here takes debate personally and this forum has always been a civil place to celebrate success and advance the community knowledge base (sometimes thorough expensive lessons..😗.) ... so hang out here, explore the data base a bit and you will see. Cheers.

Buy one strap for $70 from Vietnam, get a NOS tri-compax for free! What a deal! 😀

Stumbled on this recently and had to chuckle. Congrats on a great find!

This guy from Vietnam made the most beautiful, personalized, perfectly finished croco and horween strap. I asked 18,5mm and 18,3mm to perfectly fit the watch. The quality is outstanding for the price !

I would definitely recommend him ! 😉
