Today, I had the fortune of landing this NOS Speedmaster Apollo XI 20th anniversary (3590.59), which I locally purchased from the original owner. Although, I already owned one, it didn't nearly come close to the condition of the NOS. It took 2 years, but finally, the owner being 85 years old was finally ready to sell. He had purchased it back in 1990 and put it away in a safe for later use.
Dial has aged beautifully and has developed a very nice and even cream patina, nothing ages as gracefully as 1980's Speedmaster tritium! On the case, there are is still some factory applied blue/purple film present on the chamfers and in the back, the red dot is still in tact proving its' NOS condition (the white particles are remnants of the pillow which has flaked off.) Only slight negative is the white pillow has degraded pretty badly as the plastic has flaked off and made a mess inside the box.
The first Apollo XI was also purchased from the original owner which includes the original sales receipt from 1990, priced at $1,000 plus $675 in sales tax.
Watches in this condition are still out there, but harder to find.
Happy Thanksgiving everybody!
