It's gonna kill Bernie when a capitalist makes a Bernie Edition pair of those gloves
The woman who made those mitts has been inundated with requests but she says she doesn't make them anymore, says she can't afford to make them because of the taxes incurred. So much for capitalism in Bernie's home state of Vermont.

I think the president's Rolex is an elegant choice, though personally I'm more an Omega guy. Good on him.

There are plenty of great American-made watches he could have bought to support American businesses, but I guess he just cares about Swiss workers more than American

This is fake news, there are other misleading articles from far right media sources saying she went bankrupt.
She’s a school teacher for a living and made mittens on the side, how much could she possibly have been taxed on them? Utter nonsense. She explains that they are handmade and that she couldn’t possibly fill thousands of orders.

These guys are wearing a Datejust worth of body armor and each carrying a Tin-tin worth of firepower....it’s all relative.
The cost of body armor is surprisingly low. You can get a concealable vest with level III inserts for less than $200 USD.
Example.

Firearms are also much less expensive than you think, though you can shoot the moon with the more blingy types.
A friend builds custom entry weapons for LEO, I was amazed what he could build one for.
The WW2 era collector types, like the Garand and M1 Carbine can be very expensive if all original, but perfectly serviceable Cold War era Soviet autoloader weapons are often dirt cheap.

The AR-15 clones can often be found brand new on sale for less than $600.
The pricier name brands can go for 2K or more. Used AR rifles can often be found fairly cheaply. The market is glutted right now. Supply exceeds demand. Prices often depend on local.

I agree, I can get a Seiko diver that’s far cheaper and easier to get parts than an Omega Seamaster- just as I can get an off brand AR rather than the Colt Armalite- but there is just as much snobbery in the gun world as there is in the watch world. My point again- these hobbies all take money, education and passion- one is not a “working class” hobby versus an elitest’s hobby. I have trap& skeet guns that I could easily sell for grail watches- but that’s another forum all together.

I'd guess that there are quite a few citizens of the USA involved in the representation, selection, importation, distribution, sales and servicing of "Swiss" watches, so I think he's doing something to support part of the population.

He wears a Citizen Eco Drive
Good watch, no matter what your politics happen to be. Before I got my first Swiss watch, I wore one for several years.

100% agree, my friend.
A few years ago there was a discussion on the gun forums regarding gun control, magazine capacity etc. There are about 300 million firearms out there, it would be nearly impossible to confiscate them. It was said that ammunition would be impossible to get. Looks like that came true. I had a bunch of friends who would get together at a public range and go through cases of .223, several AK calibers, .30.06, you name it, we shot it. Not anymore, even if you can find ammo, it's insanely expensive. A 50 round box of 9mm used to be under $10.00, now it's 3X that. A brick if .22 was under $10.00, I don't even see it anymore. With the rioting and looting last summer lots of people were purchasing firearms. I was frequently asked what I recommended to purchase. I response was "buy whatever you can find ammo for." Reloaders aren't having anymore luck, they can't find the supplies. Not sure what the future holds for sportsman.

Primer caps are the real hang-up as far as reloaders are telling me. 5.56 NATO has gone up 2000% and no, I didn't add too many zeros.

The ammunition supply is a serious issue. Fortunately, I've got some lying around. But certainly not enough.

I vehemently assert that a short of ammunition adversely affects gun safety in that proficiency is degraded. Imagine if there was so little aviation fuel that pilots couldn't go fly approaches to remain current.

A lack of proficiency in either a gunfight or on an approach trends toward being fatal and those skills perish quickly.

But, there isn’t a “shortage” of ammunition because of lower supply, there’s a “shortage” because of higher demand. Manufacturer are making and selling more ammo than ever.

Since before Obama’s first term, gun lobbyists have been ringing the false alarm bells that everyone’s coming for your guns; and in the 12 years since. they’ve done nothing but produce and sell more guns than ever before in history.

So to use your analogy: there’s more aircraft fuel than ever, it’s just that people are panic buying and hoarding it based on having been manipulated by manufacturing lobbies that are making more money than ever.

Never said there was a shortage per se. There absolutely is a rush on demand. So I suppose I should've said: imagine if there were so many pilots that needed to stay current that there was a fuel shortage. Either way, the end result is the same. If people aren't able to stay proficient with their firearm, they are certainly less safe than if they had the ability to fire rounds at the range regularly.

Well, in my personal experience which is a measly n of 1: if all you need is enough ammo to stay current on doing some recreational hunting or sport shooting, and you know where to look, it’s around.

I suppose I would have more difficulty if instead I felt I “needed” several thousand rounds buried in a doomsday bunker, and if “practicing” meant sending several hundred rounds a minute down range to prepare for a zombie apocalypse.

Those are the types of yahoo’s that are going to manage to eventually have people coming for “our” guns.

Some of us are sportsmen who despise the mockery being made of it all. It’s why I tore up my NRA card a few years back, and am glad to see it now folding under the weight of its own LaPierre insanity.

I carry concealed every day. I want to maintain proficiency with that pistol so that it remains a shield for me, my loved ones, or a stranger and does not become a liability.

I also love rifles.

To your point, I never really did care for spending a few hundred rounds through an AR unless it was for a specific skill. But I think the reason I don't like to do that is purely because of expense. Getting that lurking feeling that you shouldn't be doing something based on how much money it's costing you is never fun.

Keep faith, my friend. There are plenty of good, lawful gun owners around. They're just quiet because they don't want to be lumped in with the zombie preppers and cons.

Nobody will (successfully) "come for our guns."

I've heard the argument about the supply of ammo. I used to think people were hoarding it, I don't think that's the case. People I know can't "hoard" it, they can't find it on the shelves at any price!!! I was a firearms instructor at my dept for years. I would take a shopping cart to Walmart and fill it with boxes of .40 winchester white box, and remington 12 gauge . No shortage. I have no explanation for the shortage. Possibly the EPA is making it harder to manufacture???

I used to work in outside sales, and US auto companies and suppliers were my customers. I could only use my car allowance for a a 4-door American vehicle. Later on the rules were changed. and you could purchase whatever you wanted. I ended up with an Infiniti FX35 which at the time was a new unique design ($45K in 2006). Cool car but certainly below a BMW or Mercedes. I learned one of my customers complained to my boss that my car was too nice. The customer was a real jerk and read me the riot act because I showed up 15 minutes early to an appointment.
