JLC Memovox 3151 from the 50s - Please for your help!

Hello all,

I have been offered a JLC Memovox 3151 from the 50s in exchange. I like the watch very much. I spent some time researching online, the dial and hands seem ok, the crowns too I think. I can still get pictures of the movement if I am interested in the watch. I don't know anything about JLC and the Memovox unfortunately. What do you think about the watch?

Unfortunately I can't find any comparable offers, neither on eBay, nor on Chrono24. How do you estimate the realistic value of the watch? In exchange, the seller puts it up to just under 2000€.

Thanks, Andreas

PS: I know, with the few pictures you can not judge the watch well. It would be important to me first, how you estimate the asking price of the seller - the exchange we would handle personally, ie I could also look at the clock in peace.

It would perhaps be helpful to include more details about the watch. IIRC, this is not a jumbo reference, but a 35mm hand-winding variant. Is that correct?

You're right, of course! Correct it is the variant with manual winding, reference 3151.

I'm not seeing any concerns at first glance. Note that the lugs have been polished and that the ends are not exhibiting the original sharp triangular shape. $2k isn't a crazy price, IMO, but probably not a bargain, these are not as desirable as the jumbo references with bumper movements. However, I really couldn't give an accurate valuation without doing research. If the true value matters to you, I think it would be a good idea to do your own comprehensive research into valuation, by looking at past sales in auctions, etc. It is time consuming, but often more accurate than relying on estimates from others.

Hello,

thanks for your help. I have of course already looked on ebay at the ended auctions etc. but can not find this reference!I think the lugs are ok, the following catalog picture I found here on the forum. Here the 3151 also has so rounded lugs.

You misunderstood my comment about the shape of the lugs, and you are referring to the round shape of the side profile, which is not what I am referring to. Take my word for it or not, but the lugs on the OP watch are polished and not sharp.

Hello Dan,

Yes, I had indeed misunderstood. You are right, the lugs have already been polished. I got a few more pictures. I'm still a bit undecided / cautious myself - I think the watch is really beautiful, but if I'm not familiar with a model, I'm a bit worried that I've overlooked something.

Thank you, Andreas

Personally, I would not make that trade, I think your 18k IWC is very nice and I don't think the 3151 is comparable. If you are interested in adding a Memovox, my personal favorites are the 37mm bumper models.

Hi Dan, thanks for your opinion. I like your Memovox very much, although I am now very happy with 35 - 36 mm diameter. I will think again today whether I make the exchange if necessary with a co-payment....

Many greetings, Andreas

Not that I know anything here, but I am like Dan, would not trade your IWC for the Memovox as pictured.

+1! Andreas, every line of the case of your 1810 is so perfect I would never part with it - it's a superb object. Please consider posting a photo of it on this thread for the record.

Hello all,

thank you for your opinions. I have now canceled the trade.

Yes, the 1810 is really nice - since I have 2 of them, both in great condition, I'm giving one away.

VG, Andreas

Update: Now the interested Person offers me a Zenith Bicompax with caliber 146 D for trade. I do not know the conditions yet, he first asked if I was interested. I will get detailed pictures of the lugs to see how much they were polished. But the watch is a blast (if you say that in English).

What color is that dial? It looks dark blue in the photo but I'm only aware of a grey-blue version.

Yes, the dial is blue. I have not found a comparable dial online. Now I'm a little worried that it is not original. Do you have any idea how I can determine this on watches from Zenith?
