Hey everyone

Any opinions on this watch. Someone offered it to me at $900.

Not a JLC movement in these. Worth gold value plus a couple of hundred for the movement.

The JLC Club line reminds me of the old Porsche 912. A Porsche body and chassis with a VW Beetle engine.

The Club line is the exception that proves the rule that JLC never screws up.

Why is that so, due to the external movement?

Yes, the Club watches could have been produced by a lot of other, lesser manufacturers. Not up to the usual JLC standard. I think they were a bargain line for JLC.

I see. Was attracted to it since for an 18k gold JLC it was priced at 900 usd only.

Why are you doing this weird bumping with no additional substance? It's not appropriate. You've received comments from two knowledgeable collectors, count yourself lucky. If you don't like their opinions, then buy the watch. You don't need our permission.

I love 912s, one of the first green sport cars. Plenty of pick up for the size and a gas saver at a time when that wasn’t a priority. Like so many things. I wish I’d picked one up 10 - 15 years ago...

Seeking for more opinions, is that wrong?

What opinion are you looking for?

Facts are facts. It is a JLC licensed gold case with a non-JLC made movement.

It is not a watch that JLC collectors seek out, but there is value in the gold. If that is good enough, buy it, if not, don’t.

I can tell you this much, if this were a desirable JLC watch priced at $900, it would have been long gone.

I have a bunch of JLCs new and old. This is fun if you want a vintage beater, but I would not pick up one as a collector's item. For a little more you can get a nice stainless JLC with a JLC movement. That being said, I do like watches with the Day complication, especially now when its easy to lose track of time during the shutdown.

That isn’t exactly correct, sorry!
Well, the 912 used a Porsche engine from the predecessor 356 super 90!
That wasn’t a bad or cheap engine, it was pretty good in both cars and a real Porsche engine!
The 912 wasn’t much slower than the basic 911 and had a better weight balance than the 911 with the heavier 6-cylinder engine!

the later, 1976-77 Porsche 912E ha an flat 4 Engine from the 914/4 2,0, what was also used in the VW T2 Bus, but never in a VW beetle !

Used to have an 1968 912 and it was a pretty good classic car!

From your Wiki:
The 912 enjoyed a one-year revival with the U.S.-only 912E powered by the 914-derived 2.0-liter VW"Type 4" flat 4 with Bosch L-Jetronic fuel injection delivering 90 SAE horsepower at 4900 rpm.

I live in the US. This is the 912 I remember.

With respect to the watch, the JLC Clubs used mostly A. Schlid movements. These were good, mechanically sound movements, used by many other watch companies.

But they were not JLC movements.
