    Beautiful watch and case, congrats Larry!

    Side note, those old school case knives are the reason why there is a huge gouge in the mid case and case back on so many watches, right? Seems like standard practice was to always open in the same place, and to align the gouge each time, so that it got larger over time with each subsequent service?

    Bought one on Amazon that is too thick. I will leave opening this case back to my watchmaker. However she's keeping perfect time.

    That’s correct Ben, the reason that you want to open it on the same spot is because you don’t want to cause more wear all over the caseback. So it’s better to just keep it on the same spot.

    Having said that, I never open any gold cases watch with those old school caseback opener. I always use a really sharp and thin box cutter, or my Smith & Wesson knife as I don’t want to the gouge to become larger.
