I picked up this spitfire

I have seen just a few variations of it but I am wondering which came first or why the changes.

Mine has the “fish” on the stem

Mine also had the name down below instead of “Tzc automatic “.

The first picture is mine. I attached what I think is the reference model.

The next is a variation.

Full service from Iwc is 600 or so, so I will send it off for that. They are sending me a care/shipping kit and I’m awaiting that. Can’t wait. I will update with service along the way.

I’m not sure what the model difference is between the one I got and the one with the TZC script.

I also prefer the simpler model.

IWC communication early has been great. I’ll keep posted.

So I sent IWC a email requesting service. In one day they sent me prepaid box and shipping instructions.

I will update as we go.

In one day of them having it got my bill and expected service. I could have declined the polish. The crystal was optional.

At first I declined but I decided to call back so add about 200 more to this for the crystal and I should get back about a new watch.

The one with TZC on the bottom, and printed numbers is the early reference IW3251. A pretty cool watch but so many fonts. I believe this one is the thinnest version. The dial update with the applied numerals came in the richemont era.

I got off the phone with IWC and they tell me 1998. But I don’t know if that is correct. The girl on the phone was very nice but I think she was looking at a start of an era date.

I ordered a few straps today for a few of my watches from strap co. I need to chill out on the watch buying hobby for a while.

I got my watch back.

Last week I was asked for payment. Shortly after I paid (within 2 days ) I got tracking. Came with a case and I am very pleased with the outcome.

I swapped the strap for brown and it’s already made a daily run out and about.

Total turnaround was about a month

I also got a reply as follows …

Thank you for contacting IWC Schaffhausen.

In response to your inquiry, the caliber in your timepiece is 30710. Th model reference IW325105 was produced between 2005 and 2066. Unfortunately, we do not have the exact year of your specific piece. You can obtain those details by obtaining certificate of authenticity, which is $370 USD.

We do not have images of the movement that we can provide as those images are for internal purposes.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

Ask if they can install a black date wheel. Would look so much better.

I agree that would look cool. I am of the mind that I want the watches to come as they were on an original purchase date.

I’ve bought drums (I’m a drummer ) that people modded and did what they thought was cool. Putting a “better part “. Then I’m losing my hair trying to find the original pieces.

All in on this pawn shop find. 900 for the watch about the same on the rebuild.

Happy camper
