·This old warrior has been a regular wearer for me these past few years after divesting myself of my more valuable Inge's.
A check of the "date your IWC" website shows a movement manufacture date of 1963 and case production of "around 1964 up until 1966".
It's been wonderfully reliable but I'm sure it could use a service as I have no idea of when it last had one.
My pics are generally a "warts and all" presentation as I'd like you to be pleasantly surprised by this one...
The soft iron dials on these are prone to rust, as is the case here. Only this dial has (to my eye) a very pleasing and homogenous freckled appearance. The even spread of tiny brown micro-dots is something I've always enjoyed about this piece.
Case: I think it's been re-brushed, perhaps very lightly polished. But I really cannot see any difference in lug thickness or contour when compared to an unpolished example I used for comparison. Lugs are fat, sharp and look good. Mid-case has probably been rebrushed, but I see no evidence of it being polished as the contours are also very full and sharp. Bezel and case back appear untouched. On the case back, the oblique angle just above the wrench slots is sharp; and this is an angle which is almost always obliterated when polished.
Dial: Very pleasing "iron freckle" patination. Lume plots partially intact and oxidized. Oxidation seen under loupe and not with naked eye.
Movement: very clean looking 8531, keeping reasonably good time, though I have not timed it for accuracy. Date snaps over smartly at 12:00. Would definitely have it serviced for regular wear. Soft iron cover snaps easily onto movement ring and remains snug.
Hands: oxidized with intact lume
Crown: original and excellent condition
Altogether a lovely and honest old piece that I will miss. I do love my Inge's...
Sold as head only. Just reduced to $2350. U.S. sale strongly preferred, shipping is on me. I take pp f+f or bank wire.
