·Brand: International Watch Co. (IWC)
Model: Calibre 88
Year of Manufacture: 1950 (case number 12473**)
Case material: 18kt rose gold
Case size: 37mm
The consolidation continues... I’m funding a house purchase and some prior incomings and therefore having to make some difficult decisions on my collection.
Selling this watch is likely the most difficult of all for me.
I’ll let the pictures do most of the talking, but the dial on this watch is absolutely pristine. It winds and keeps time, although I haven’t serviced it during my ownership.
The dial is an egg-shell, cream colour with an almost sun-burst quality in the right light. Hour markers are rose gold daggers/exclamation points, with Arabic numerals at 3, 9 and 12, and with rose gold circular minute markers.
The rose gold hands have some minimal tarnishing but this is nearly un-noticeable.
The case is 18kt rose gold and the colour is outstanding in person.
It has lovely curving lugs viewable from a side profile. It’s also a rare, modern sized dress watch in that it’s 37mm and wears beautifully. It wears thinner than my JLC Master Ultra Thin
It contains a legendary movement, IWC’s Cal 88. I love the sub-seconds dial layout on the calibre 88 as opposed the central seconds on the 89.
There is a small crack in the crystal - it’s barely visible while the watch is being worn - I’ll leave the decision as to replacement to the future owner. It hasn’t interfered with my enjoyment of the watch so I’ve left as-is.
As noted, the watch winds and keeps time, although I haven’t serviced it during my ownership - this IWC dates from 1950.
Price: $2,250USD OBO (head only) - price includes shipping in the CONUS. Shipping elsewhere available at actual cost. Payment is by wire, but PayPal accepted for known members.
Returns not accepted unless the watch has been significantly misrepresented.
