It appears that when no watches are released, nobody cares about anniversaries (20 July 2020 = ...)

@eugeneandresson I believe you would be correct. Here on the OF I think the year leading up to the release of the highly anticipated Apollo 11 50th anniversary Speedmaster as well as the moon landing anniversary itself was the high water mark for interest the manned spaceflight program and the roll watches played in it.

Disappointingly, it does appear that there is little to no interest in the subject any longer.

Probably more of at the moment than any longer.

TV in Australia has had several specials about space anniversaries for the last 12 months. Think Apollo 13 was on only a few days ago.

The current issue has stopped all releases from most makers. Few little ones here and there like the Mido one that sort of came out the other day without much fanfare and a Longines release of many heritage watches. With no big events this year from any brand I don鈥檛 think you will see much this year. Omega had pegged October 5th from April so over 6-7 months out.

Think all brands are being sensitive in not releasing (or being first to) in the current environment.

On another note To Me Apollo 13 is like the anniversary of when your car broke down. Meh, nothing special compared to the moon landing. 馃槈

I agree that there is interest in the topic in general in other venues or formats but I do think here in this forum there is very little interest currently. There was a time when the topic posted here would garner more interest and conversation but those days appear long gone.

My 7-year-old is in an online school session right now. They just spent a few minutes talking about the Apollo anniversary.

I know I'm late to the party (I always am, on the west coast) but I've been looking forward to strapping on my 105.012 and enjoying the anniversary

I used to be fascinated by WWII and remember watching anything war related with my dad. A friend's son sent him a short tiktok video that said it's like all dad's are studying for a WWII quiz show.

I recently realized that the moon landing has become my new WWII. Can't get enough.

Hey, Bob and Doug still need our support! Big homecoming August 02!

Edit: my friend in Seattle just texted me when i reminded him about Buzz stepping on the moon about this time:

"I shook his hand at the Museum of Flight. My wife work there. They had a big Gala event with the largest gathering of Apollo Astronauts since the program ended. With the exception of Neil Armstrong. I was Rusty Schweigert's guide"

Goose bumps. I had no idea.

Always fun to watch the Apollo 11 Moon Landing's first steps on the Moon.

This is the best line I have read all week. Although I think Jim L and crew would have a different perspective.

When I told my daughter just now about the moon landing anniversary she said:

"And now we have Space Force!"

Don't know if that makes you feel better or worse..

And you would be correct. For a watch forum I鈥檒l stick to the more related watch topics such as bikes, cars, pets, jokes, AV equipment and donuts.

It's Ok. We all really know the moon landings where fake. So it's like celebrating the anniversary of Star Wars.
