Is this warranty still valid?

Hi,

1st time on here so I was hoping to get some help with a purchase. I saw a Pyeuongchang planet ocean unworn, brand new in box along with three cards, strap and manual on eBay as authenticity guaranteed. The watch has some sentimental value because it’s the year we got married.

The thing that attracted me to it was the warranty card was filled out with the date, Wynn was written on it along with two small white stickers with numbers (one above the date) and one to the bottom left of the card.

I called the Wynn botique and started to ask if this would be valid. The person at the botique sounded very guarded. I explained I’d like to buy a watch and want to verify it was purchased from the botique and if the warranty would be valid since the date was xx/xx/2025.

The agent did confirm it was purchased from there and proceeded to ask me how much I’m purchasing it from the third party.

Should I be worried about this? The watch is not easy to find since it’s an Olympics watch, and the cost is approximately $5500 for it. Is this a good deal? Sound sketchy?

Also, I verified the serial number of the watch, matches the serial number etched in the casing and on the actual watch inside the movements.

What do you recommend, should I not worry about this? Thank you very much for your help!

No surprise that Wynn was guarded in their response, they don't know you and you are asking questions about authenticity, or if the watch was sold by them. It makes everybody suspicious. If it has the cards and all numbers match you are probably ok, with a valid warranty, but Wynn can't guarantee that with what you asked and the info they have.

Whether it's a good deal is a question only you can answer in your situation.

I do think it is odd that they asked what you paid. 😀 I wonder if that was idle professional curiosity on the SA’s part—just being curious about how that LE has retained value. It’s also possible that that location only ever saw one of those pieces (only 2018 were produced, right?), and so the SA knows exactly who the original purchaser was and is being a little nosy about that. (Not that you’re necessarily buying it from the original owner—it could have changed hands a few times.) I’ve read that SAs for some high end brands like Patek and Lange pay attention to the preowned market and if they find out a client has flipped (or just sold) a tough-to-get, ‘privilege’ piece (because they can see the serial, or in the case of Lange can recognize the unique handiwork in the movement), then they may ‘demote’ that client in the future. Maybe this SA is miffed that the client sold this watch. But that’s nothing but silly speculation on my part.

Thank you, it’s true and makes sense what you’re saying. The SA I spoke with also stated, “we worked hard to get him this watch and he must’ve been strapped for cash.” Which also made me feel like it was a good deal. The agent then said, “these are hard to find and retail for $7,600”. I also realized it was sold in the end of April, right before the price increase.

I would also like to add more photos to see if you have any feedback about the watch/deal. It also have the master chronometer card (I have been able to access the test results which was really cool), along with the pictograms. Everything seems to match just fine. I feel like it was too good to be true because when I see deals like this, it’s usually an empty warranty card, something doesn’t match or something is off but this looks to match in the photos. Plus it went to eBay’s guaranteed authenticity. Is eBay trusted with that?

the watch looks fine to me. $5500 is a good price for this piece but it’s not so low that it raises concerns—I see others listed online for around the same. (Also plenty listed higher, but I’m guessing most of those sellers would be happy to accept such an offer.) I’d say you found a motivated, realistic buyer.

eBay authentication is peace of mind. Just try to sort out whether they open the watch to examine the movement and if so be sure to take the watch in to to your nearest AD or OB to get it pressure tested if they’re willing (and there may be a small fee for this). When it comes to gaskets and seals, you want to be sure.

You guys were great before, when I had a question and I was wondering your opinion:

I paid ~$5500 for the watch. Should I insure it with JM? $50 a year ish is the cost with my receipt of purchase. Which I’m fine with but then a thought came through:

Should I appraise it and hope for a higher value? I know it’ll increase my premium but do you guys think it’ll be appraised higher than this amount since it’s retail is ~$8k?

Thanks for your help!

Do you really need to insure it? What's your environment like, do you feel like you and your watch are at risk? IMO people over insure for stuff like this. Just a thought.

This is good feedback. I’m more worried about losing it at the beach if I take it off, or damaging it if it falls etc. since it was brand new when I purchased, and below retail I was wondering if I appraise, would this community think I’d get close to retail or if I should just use my receipt as what o paid for to be the value. Thank you!

Just curious why would you take your watch off at the beach?
You know, that’s a good question. It’s a plane ocean right?! Maybe I didn’t think that reason through all the way 😂

or damaging it if it falls etc

Omegas warranty covers most accidental drop damage now, believe it or not.

Regarding insurance- you are overthinking this. Coverage needs to ensure for your replacement cost. That's about it.

This isn't an incredibly rare model or something with an essentially Irreplaceable vintage dial. Not to make light of your very cool watch- congratulations, it's a beauty!

Unless you live in an area where watch thefts are common, engage in activities where you are likely to be robbed of said watch (say, leave clubs drunk at 2am by yourself), or are planning to travel to places where that is common or with your watch in Luggage as opposed on your person, you're probably overthinking the necessity of insurance.

Let's be real- the likelihood that you would forget this on the beach if you take it off is pretty darn low anyway.

If you want insurance though or it would make you feel safer by all means. It's not a decision we can make for you.

Omega stand by their warranty regardless of how long the watch was in stock before sale by the way. As an extreme example, I have a Speedmaster LE manufactured around 2011 which was eventually sold in Japan in 2020. I had to get something sorted under warranty and they honoured it no problem at all and did a full service gratis.
