Is this Vintage Omega Seamaster worth $500.00 USD

I'm new to the hobby, looking to buy my first omega. Big fan of gold which drew me to this piece but all the advise and things to watch for are specific to the more traditional look seamasters, circular with silver and white face.

Appreciate any advice, I'm a bit concerned about the inside not looking to clean compared to everything I find online and the missing omega insignia.

Apologies if I posted this post in the wrong thread. I attempted to do my homework before asking for help but was hoping I could get help from this group.

I can provide link If it helps but unsure if it's against forum rules.

The watch is described as "Vintage Omega Seamaster Cal 1022 Ref 166.0216 366.0848.

Is the safe bet to pay 1k from a non-Ebay site to get a good watch?

Most I want to spend is around 700 usd.

Check out the Private Sales forum as they pop up there from time to time, and in theory buying from a OF member is safer than eBay.

You can get a great condition gold cap for much less than 1000 US wig a bit of research and patience. Critically, paying a premium from an internet dealer is no guarantee of quality

I also think $500 is too much for that watch. The gold plated case has a lot of wear and the movement needs a service.

Agree with others, give that a miss and do a ton of research before even thinking about making a purchase so you have a much better idea of spotting what IS a good deal worth grabbing.

For under 1k you can find a ton of vintage Omegas in good condition, and with very reliable Movements from the 55X range, if you buy from a private Seller and not a dealer. What type do you like?

Not sure about if I'm describing this correctly but I am looking for a Vintage Omega Seamaster with a white face with silver or gold case and brown leather strap. Some examples I've ran across on Ebay below.

I am looking for a watch I can wear and will retain its value. As I am new to watch collecting entirely. My initial understanding from what I've been reading on this forurm is that the best approach is to get a watch that has had the least amount of work done to retain its value.

My budget is between 700 and 1k. My biggest concern is spending that much on a watch that isn't worth it.

Super grateful of the responses from everyone and appreciative of the input and guidance on this forum.

First one looks OK (based on a single photo), second one has a refinished dial and the third on has a horribly worn case.

Throw that line back in and keep searching.

I suggest you take several months, like maybe six and learn as much as you can from this forum, which is a lot, before making your first purchase.

You're on the right track by asking before you buy. 👍
