Is This the One?

I've been looking for a non-date (cal. 551) version of my minty 1965 14K gold Connie Pie-pan with dog-leg lugs and onyx filled indexes (167.005/6 cal. 561). I found one on 1stDibs. Never mind the asking price. There's not enough info (serial, service, etc.) and pics for a newbie like me to know whether it's for real. I asked for detailed photos of the movement and inside case back and was told "photographer is out sick", which is certainly plausible these days. Any help, comments, or advice? Anyone had experience with 1stDibs "buyer protection" program? Thanks, Joel

Listing: Vintage Omega Constellation Automatic Men's 14k Gold Watch Cal. 551 - Automatic winding; 26 jewels; Caliber 551. 14k yellow gold (36mm diameter). Silvered dial with gold stick markers. Strap band. Pre-owned with custom box. Circa 1950-60's.

Case has definitely been heavily polished. Look at the lugs and the observatory medallion and stars on the case back. I would pass. Here are photos of my 1962 14900 for comparison.

Hi Joel,

Might be helpful if you do give us an idea of what the seller is asking for - not that you’d pay it, of course, but there’s no need to be coy about it.

Depending on what it is we might think it a fair price.

Not coyness. Just didn't want to put a foot wrong since I'm new here and didn't know if it was okay to say. $4,800. Lot more than I paid for my cal. 561version.

The spacing between Omega and the logo doesn’t look correct to me. But I could be wrong.

Yep, the case condition is rather poor 🙁

Note how the back of the lugs have deep gouges, probably from being fitted with a steel bracelet that has worn away the softer gold.

Hi Joel. Welcome.

I am by no means an expert but I think it is very safe to say that almost 5k is very very expensive for this watch! Watch out (no pun intended).

$4.8K! 😲 In that kind of condition and in 14K it's got $1750-$2250 written all over it.

Very top end of dealer pricing! Keep your eye on the private watch sales here. They come up pretty often.
