Is this seamaster genuine?

The watch looks to have been “professionally restored”. The services are clearly detailed on the invoice provided by the seller. This includes a repainting of the dial which kills any collector value the watch once had.

There is no way to tell if the movement is the proper one for that watch, without pictures of the inside of the caseback and movement.

Price seems to be rather high, but you are in the UK and have that massive VAT to deal with.

Welcome. Great idea to buy him a watch.

Id stay away from that one as the restoration kills the collector value and character.

I don’t have any similar that I’m planning on selling but it would be worth having a look at the sales forum to see if any other UK members have anything for sale.
Be wary of buying from abroad, you’ll typically end up with around 25% added to the price due to import duty and fees.

Now you may want to surprise him, but maybe it’s better to be sure he actually wants it. Some people are particular about items they own or wear.
