Is this Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust real?

Hi everyone! I'm looking to pick up my first vintage Rolex - and this one caught my eye. As with most things that can be faked these days, I figured it was best to get the experts opinion before I make any rash decisions.

Would you all mind taking a look at these photos and lending your thoughts on this one? I can't make up my mind what I think of it. The movement looked pretty smooth - not perfect, but it might need service. The band is clearly not original - or like so many, it might just be a poor fake!

Please take a look and lend me your thoughts!!

Fake and a pretty bad one.

“Swiss movt” at 6 o’clock is the biggest giveaway. Date font is wrong. Horrible proportions throughout. Bad crown. The list goes on.

In addition to spending more time here, you might enjoy reading the Vintage Rolex Field Guide that was written by a member. A review of it is here https://www.fratellowatches.com/book-review-the-vintage-rolex-field-guide/

Fake. Compare it to an original. Everything is very, very crude and just not right. Case, bezel, crown, tube, dial; it’s all a long where from the detail and quality of an original

With some practice, you will be able to recognize the bad old fakes pretty easily, because everything is wrong: dial printing/texture, date-wheel, shape of case/bezel, crown, etc. There are better fakes these days that are much harder to identify.

Hi Brandon! It´s all been said in the above posts...this is a fake, and a very clumsy, trashy one at that! And don´t get me started on the appalling bracelet. Walk away from this one, fast, and don´t look back! The vintage Rolex market is a minefield. Be VERY careful, and remember the old adage..."Buy the seller"! Good luck and good hunting! Cheers!

While this watch is a sh*tter, I bet there’s several deeply-polished vintage Datejusts that look like that

Can we get some clarification on the authenticity of this watch?

I’m not an expert but I’m pretty sure this one is fake.

It's smart to seek opinions before diving into vintage Rolex territory. From what you've described, it sounds like there are a few red flags, like the non-original band and potential need for service.
