I’ve recently fallen in love with vintage waffle dial Omegas, and found this one on eBay. It looks super clean and that triggers some warning bells for me. Is this a good deal or is it too good to be true? https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-me...ze-excelent-condition-very-rare-/303466113833Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network if it isn’t real, any advice on where to get a similar watch? I’m looking for something plain and minimal from the 40s, 50s or maybe even early 60s. I have a small wrist (around 7”), so I’m looking for something that has a lower profile and smaller face. thanks in advance for the help!
Yes, that 8 o'clock marker was replaced. But I suspect that the dial is otherwise original, as those textured dials are extremely difficult to redial with any accuracy. Then again, I could, of course, be wrong.
I'd agree there. Would look more like a nursery school colouring-in project. Also, I would surmise that they are harder to fake.
Thanks for the feedback everyone, I keep learning so much from these forums! I didn’t even notice the hour marker at 8 o’clock! All that being said, does this seem like a reasonable price for this type of watch?
My guess is redial. I've never seen an original watch with swiss made above the minute markers. Also the fact that a numeral was replaced means that at some point this watch was worked on. Calling @ConElPueblo @cristos71 @MikeMan2727 and others I'm forgetting!
I don't know anything about these, but the sub-seconds area looks clumsy to me, as though the dial would better suit a cross hair there instead of the hash marks. If I really had to make a call then I'd say redial, but either way I wouldn't buy it as the Swiss Made location to me also looks off and even if that is correct I still find it an ugly location to put it in. As for the 8 o clock marker....
You have not seen everything yet in vintage Omegas: Detail of an unrestored dial on a chronometer ref. 2366
These are my thoughts as well. A semi-thorough google search will yield one other 2505 with the same configuration whilst all others are the more common varieties with cross hair on dials without sunken seconds track and ten second markings on those with a sunken seconds track. The only place I normally see ten second increments on a level track are on black, redialed watches. As @BenBagbag will know - and his avatar shows - there are rare exceptions to the design of seconds tracks
Another red flag to me is the seller's location. My understanding is that South America and Eastern Europe are risky.
in my opinion is a redial: the graphic is not perfect as Omega do on that kind of dial, and close to 9 there is a dent and the color looks exactely the same as the other parts of the dial. Usualy the base of the dial is dark yellow and you can't see any "hand made" color on the scratch. The index at 8 is different and is quite impossible to find one like the others. sorry for my bad english, hope you understand.
