Hi, This one is up for auction very soon.... Is the dial actually made in this "crumbled" way? Or is this some kind of patina/aging effect?? Advice please!
Actually, it looks like crackle varnish to me. You can buy it from art supply stores to overpaint canvases to make them appear older than they are. But perhaps it's just age, although what could get varnish to distort in this way is beyond me. It just looks like someone made a mistake re-varnishing it...
I was kind of liking the effect, however I am afraid the price on the auction may go too high for me to bother.... The movement has a recent service, but the case is not that great. On top of that I have plenty of other 30mm Omegas, so I will keep clear for now I guess. Thanks for the ever good advice and support!
That dial is a horrible mess, don't bother. And the hands are mismatched, as well - the minute hand is incorrect.
I stand corrected that I did not spot the wrong minute hand! Proof that I need to pay better attention to the small details.
Someone liked it a lot! It was sold for about EUR500 (including fees)!!! I wish I could track that buyer down. I have several other 30mm Omegas he could have for the same price, and in much nicer condition!
