Is this normal? Omega Day Date Question

All,

The day date feature on my 1976 Omega Seamaster is not aligned and I’m wondering if this indicates an issue with the movement of my watch?

Thanks!

John

Update: I think I just need to adjust it a little bit and now it’s sitting in place!

another question: how long does it take for the watch to stop moving in terms of the second hand after taking it off? I don’t think this watch has been worn in a while and I just started putting it on in whenever I take it off it stops moving within a couple minutes

Give it a full manual wind and see if that changes anything (~50-60 turns of the crown). I'd guess you're never getting much power reserve by just simply utilizing the automatic function and as soon as you stop moving, the limited reserve expires quickly thereafter.

Thank you! So I shouldn’t be panicked by this occurrence. Thank you 😀

What he said. Should be in excess of 40 hours, give or take. Also it is more accurate if you keep it fully wound. Wear it to bed.

If the watch hasn't been worn in awhile, and it doesn't seem to want to wind when you wear it, it is an indication that the movement most likely needs a service. It's not a panic situation but you probably need to have it addressed.

After the wind it hasn’t stopped running—is that a good sign that it’s functioning appropriately? Thanks!

Yes, a watch running after it's wound is A Good Thing.

That's a good sign. It should keep running for, as SkunkPrince noted, around 40 hours if left on your nightstand (or in the watchbox).

So the watch is currently wound properly but the watch seems to stop every 15 minutes and then when I start wearing it it powers on again. Is this normal for a watch that has hidden in a drawer for a while?

No. Get it serviced. You can choose an independent or send it to Omega, it's not collectible enough yet for people to complain about it if you do. I personally have been sending my watches to Nesbit's in Seattle; if you share your location, we can try to hook you up with someone.

Edited to add: seems to me that someone tossed it in the drawer because the mainspring broke.
