Is this Longines gold watch worth saving?

I would save it. I bet a different light would catch the dial and cast a different shade. To me it looks magical.

I recently had a jewellery store send me a 24-jewel Illinois Bunn Special in a beautiful 14-karat gold, open faced case. The owner had sold the case to a scrap dealer, but needed to know the case weight. Through the jewellery store, I made an offer of more than scrap value for the watch, but the owner was committed to sell to the scrap dealer. Several weeks ago, the guy who had owned the watch contacted me to see if I wanted the movement (only) for $500.00! I turned him down.

Every watch is worth saving if it speaks to you ... I suggest going into the shop and get talking to the owner ... ask them what they want above melt for it, while being as charming as you can. It's often worked for me.

What everyone has said about the value of the watch is probably true. It comes down to whether you want to own it for a bit over melt or not. One thing that has not been said is that you might be able to find a good generic Longines dial (not with the street address) and make the watch nice again if you wanted.
