Is this fake ?

Hello, I've seen an old 1960's cosmic but the engraving on the rear of the watch looks quite poor. I have looked at some similar watches and it seems some have a bad 'w' on waterproof but not as bad as this one. Was it made by the apprentice, hung over watch maker ? Or is it a fake ?

I’m yet to see a repro as good as this of a 300$-watch… 😁

Caseback stamping isn’t always perfect, especially for 1960s/70s watches. The odd slightly wonky letter is nothing to worry about.

The 1970s were a low point in watch quality.

It says waterproof…

Id not date that to the 70’s 😉

The seller is advertising it as the late 1969's

I just expected better quality of engraving, I do have some other questions regarding omega's but I assume better to start a new thread

In my opinion the writing is quite good. I seen many examples of this watch with the writing almost invisible. From your picture I notice that the case has sharp edges and combine with the fact that the writing it is very visible I assume that the watch did not spent to many time on the wrist.

First thing I noticed was the left foot on the logo.

It was various bits that I noticed, I just assumed that the engraving would be better.

I noticed the same, I thought almost too crisp for a 50 year old watch.

I'm glad you're prepared to take a hard look at this issue. It's one reason I can't bring myself to love Cosmics. The aesthetic and technical standard of the emblem in question belongs on the inside of the case. A quality caseback imo should look struck, like this:

YMMV!
