Is this dial refinished ?

Hi all,

I’m trying to educate myself on vintage watches, and in doing so this forum has been of great help.
Thanks a lot to the members for gathering such precious knowledge !

I’m writing this post because I came along an ad depicting an « original » dial (though I guess some dishonest sellers might argue that refinished is still original) yet it seems odd to me (and if it seems odd…). Especially the length of the minute markers varying ring some kind of red alert in my mind.

Add is here https://www.sometimespassion.com/en/page-d-articles/o-7

And below are a couple of pictures, if some you could enlighten me with your advice (just a precision : I’m not willing to buy that watch, just trying to find out if the dial has been refinished…)

Thanks
Olivier

I don’t see the varying minute haches.
It looks like a nice watch.
These ‘hidden crown’ Constellations often have their minute haches hard up against the pie pan edge.

Edit
€3,250 is a very high price for a gold capped 168.004.

Thanks !
Must be me then (to my eye for instance 27, 28 seem longer than 29 minute markers, and 32 and 33 seem longer than 31). Since some markers angles seem a bit off to me as well, could be the angle of the picture combined with the fact that they are right on the pie-pan edge that creates an effect leading me to this incorrect conclusion…
Feeling the same as you on the price, one of the reasons I’m not interested in buying it 😉

18 vs 19 and 21 vs 22 are the worst ones for me. But at that price, its a non starter for me anyway.

In some ways, I’m more perturbed by the angle of the minute haches between 7 & 8.

However, you have to look at the dial overall and it appears to be fine to me.

These painted .004 pie pans are always quite difficult to assess, compared to the sharp edged versions.

Here is my late version .004 to compare to.
The fonts are very much the same as the OP watch.
(there looks to be missing or faded text but it’s just the crystal / image artefacts)

(Apologies- I swapped the images as the other one was an .010 not a .004)

The font we see here looks very authentic, the delicate serifs and the very slim cross hair is more important than the minute markers IMO. Cross hair is ecactly positioned

Thank you, instructive indeed ! I guess I might be becoming a bit too much skeptical and seeing redials everywhere now 😅😉

That is a healthy starting point - but once you’ve viewed a thousand dials you’ll get your eye in.
