Is this buckle genuine?

Hello,

I recently acquired a vintage Seamaster and now I'm on the hunt for a proper buckle. Found one on Chrono-shop.net and it's exactly what I'm looking for.

As I'm no expert in vintage Omega buckles I would appreciate your opinion on this one: https://www.chrono-shop.net/en/buck...l-buckle-leather-strap-1416mm-70-s-men-s.html

Is it 1) genuine 2) is the site/seller legit? Also interested to hear if anyone has done any business with the seller 😀

Thanks!

Genuine. The only thing I find slightly weird is that it says "14/16mm". There's a significant price difference between the two sizes...

Thanks! And yes, also never seen anyone telling the measurements as "14/16mm". Fortunately the photos and description is very detail specific so I know it's the size I'm looking for.

Could it be referred to the inside and outside diameter?
For example the inside diameter of the buckle is 14mm so it takes 14mm ended straps.

Yes, it's a 14mm buckle so it fits my strap that has 14mm ends 😀 16mm outside which is a bit useless to tell at least imo.

Makes sense. I found this to be pretty steep for a 16mm clasp of that style tbh, for 14mm it's... ambitious.

Totally agree, last time I bought or sold this style of buckle but in 16mm I have paid/sold for about 40EUR. Maybe double that for an earlier style which is way more uncommon to come by.

But prices have maybe skyrocketed the last year or so?

I aware that I'm a newbie when I comes to buckles but +-100€ for a 14mm buckle seems like a robbery to me. It would be more justified if it was even 16mm but 14, idk what to think. Maybe they are becoming more and more rare to find. I think I'll end up buying this one anyways because it has the logo variant that I'm after and the condition is "near NOS" as the seller says.

As long as you are happy with paying a bit of premium for a safe purchase from a dealer.

Just my two cents but with a bit of patience one should be able to pick up these for half the price (if nothing special happened with the prices lately that I have missed).

My exact thoughts also!

Based on a quick research it's not even the price that might be a problem but the availability. Didn't find any other buckle like this in 14mm that would be a possible purchase. Every other one had some kind of "problem" such as condition, not the logo variant that I'm after, a possible fake...

Which Seamaster came with a strap that has 14mm ends? I might be inclined to find a strap in a more common 16 or 18mm clasp fitting, that would make it easier. Are you sure the strap is original?

I honestly don't know the dimensions of the original strap that this one came with but it has 16mm lug width. I ordered a dark brown suede MTO strap from Molequin that is 16mm wide with 14mm buckle end 😀

The case is just 32mm in diameter so it must have been a women's watch? Fits my tiny wrists perfectly tho.

Fair enough, if its a strap you want to keep, a 14mm clasp in indeed the answer 👍

Not a women's watch originally I would have thought, just a bit smaller than some.

It looks like a stretched out buckle, maybe 14/16mm means 14mm buckle stretched out to become 16mm

Nah it's a 14mm for sure 😀 The description says it clearly.

I think this is an 13mm buckle stretched out to 14mm with a very wrong pin

To be honest 13mm would be rarer when bent back and 18-13 19-13 etc. are nice tapers, right on the edge of acceptable limits

But that pin just reduces the value to 0 - not only wrong, it's ridiculous and it'll damage the logo

There is at least one NOS Omega strap in 16mm (5/8") on eBay. You might want to look for it.

I'll ask the seller about this! I'd pair this with a 16mm strap that tapers to 14 so don't worry😉
