Is this 50ies Omega a redial? (+Wristshot)

I came across this while on the hunt for a nice Omega from the 50ies. It's a ref. BK 2645-6, cal. 266. Being primarily familiar with the 60ies models I would like to know what you think: especially about the dial.

At first sight I thought it looked good with nice spacing on the minute track, good font on Omega and swiss made as it should be. However, when looking at some of the contures on the numbers I have become weary. Take for example a look at the black line surrounding the number 1. It looks very wobbly. What are your thoughts? Thanks.

PS: the case is gold-plated and has indeed seen better days, I am aware.

I have tried to remove the duplicate pictures but it just won't update unfortunately. I'm sorry.

It looks good to me although I did note at the sub second dial there is a mark on the minutes track to the left but not the right. I would expect the see the same on both sides. Did you look at any other examples of this reference online?

I did. However, I do not seem to be able to find a dial that has numerals which have been painted on - only applied.

I spotted this thread a few minutes ago and really like the looks of the watch but was holding my breath until the two members with more knowledge than me weighed in and gave their seal of approval. I really couldn't tell with any certainty but am relieved as my gut said original 👍

Haha always nice to know that the gut can be trusted.

It really is a nice dial and a shame about the condition of the case. It is being offered at 350 Euro. What do you guys think - does the case make it a no go despite the interesting dial?

The case isn't great but the dial is lovely. Your call but I think it is a fair buy. Just remember the inevitable service cost. Have you got a shot of the movement? It would be nice to check there is no corrosion etc. Some* like case patina/bloom/tarnish on gold and gold plate, I do not so I would rub that over with a Cape Cod and it may come up very nicely. Only problem is, that may make the brassing where the plate has worn through more obvious. Your call of course.

*including I think our esteemed and respected Danish contributor above.

Looks clean, serial is circa 1954. Probably still needs a service but there are no horrors there.

I was also afraid of writing it's original before the more knowledgeable members stepped in😁

I’d vote good too. Dial seems fine and movement looks cared for.

I think for €350 you really can’t go wrong. I sold a 34mm gold plaque cross hair Geneve 3 years ago for this price on eBay. The dial was rare but not as nice condition as this. I would be very happy with this watch for that price personally. It’s a very fair price indeed.

Thanks for all the replies - my thoughts exactly on the movement. I don't really do gold plated normally and am having second thoughts about the corrosion as shown here which seems to go all the way to the base metal. In your experience does that corrosion only get worse or can it be stopped with proper care and storage?

It’ll look good on the wrist and, for €350, I’d be interested if I went for sub-dials.

The numerals are mirrored (?) and will look better in real life and the ‘corrosion' is not particularly bad or visible nor is there any necessity, in my view, to rush to deal with it nor to rush to service. A gentle polish with a jewellery cloth would improve the look.

I’d suggest it’s worth taking a chance on, wearing it and seeing how it runs. If you decided that it wasn’t the watch for you, I imagine you’d have no trouble recouping your outlay or, with better photos, selling it on at a better price.

Let us know what you decide.

I got the seller down to 325 euro shipping included and jumped on it (it was on eBay and instead of sending me a private invoice he just lowered the listing price so my heart was pounding a bit as I scrambled to pay asap). Will be exciting to see how it looks in real life. Thanks everyone for your help.

Can I trouble you with another watch? The seller has just offered me this Dynamic at 385 euro and also offers combined shipping. To me it looks like the second version of the Dynamic range from the start 70ies - possibly a ref. 166.0107. Other than the fact that the lume seems to be missing from the minute hand, it looks good IMO and would be a great wearer with a crystal polish. What do you think?

Do you see that sunburst finish on the caseback?

That used to be on the front of the watch as well... Severely overpolished.

Congratulations! I was in the same situation only a month ago with an eBay purchase. Exhilarating for sure. Enjoy ☺️
