I've been looking for a 'beater' watch to replace my Timex Weekender...

For everyday wear at ~$125 or less, is there a better option than the Seiko 5 SNZG15?

I was going to post in WRUW, but more appropriate here. I bought this one a few weeks back. It was intended as a replacement for my blue Fifty Fathoms. Not intended to be a beater. But I find it works perfectly for this purpose. Actually doing some dry wall repair at home today and I have no worries about this one getting beat up. In fact ordered black one last night from Amazon for $133. IMG_20160224_095615.jpg

I refuse to buy that watch as I would redial it as a fifty tribute, I've spent to much time contemplating doing it already.

To the op. $180 gets you an skx007/009. Here is mine on a cheap leather zulu image.jpg

I like that. A great diver style watch.

Watchsteez has the skx175 for $285... do you know what the difference is between that and the skx007/009 (other than apparently $100)?

Amazon has them for under $200 on the bracelet. I recommend the bracelet, as it is actually very comfortable, and it is easier/cheaper to source the rubber strap if you want that option separately. PM me and I can get the seller I have used to buy one for my Dad, and from which my friend just got one for himself. There are some rumors about some sellers having factory seconds with slightly misaligned chapter rings (k2?).

The 007 is all black, the 009 is the Pepsi. You can also get a J or K version, the basic difference is the J says Japan on the dial, and the 007J tends to cost more. In theory the J is made in Japan and the K is made in Singapore. Quality wise next to each other they are equal, one has slightly crisper brushing on the case, the other has a better screw down crown, at least according to the one guy that ever reviewed them next to each other. Honestly, unless they are right next to each other and looking hard you cannot tell the difference. I think one person on this forum said it well, "it makes no difference where the robot is, the same robot is making the watch," and no one has ever confirmed the second factory.

Same movement as the Sieko5 you listed, which is also a great watch, hell any of the sieko 5's esp those with the 7S movements are insane deals.

It's a simple and inexpensive mod. Dial can be purchased for $35 USD.

I'm also fond of the SKX007 as a daily beater, or an Orange Monster if you want something with a little more kick. I found the latter so ugly for so long, and now I love mine.

We ♥ Seikos! I put a Seiko President bracelet on my 009 and it's the bestest beater watch ever.

Tough to beat for $20 but I'm looking to upgrade.

I used to wear my titanium Panerai, especially when fishing, but then I found this g Shock in an opp shop

That said Ive got a stack of mechanical beaters I really prefer to wear (when there's not quite s'much chance of getting drenched in salt water or covered in sand)
