    Hi all,

Most of the watches i own are Stainless steel. I finally aquired a 1963 Omega Seamaster (that needs a bit of sprucing up) in what i though was gold. It has a cal 552 and serial number is in early 2 millions

When i put the Seamaster beside a Gold plated ladies Omega Deville, it now looks Pink/Rose gold in colour to me

    What do you think??

Might just be tarnished a bit. try rubbing lightly with a jeweler's polishing cloth and see if it lightens up. Nice watch by the way!

Are you asking if the watch is rose gold or solid gold? Or are you asking if the watch is rose gold plated or yellow gold plated?
So in my opinion the watch is gold plated and there are more variation of colours of gold plated depending the variations of coper in the alloy of gold.

Sorry, It's definitely Gold plated as it lists G 40 Microns on caseback. I just wanted to confirm if it was rose gold plated or gold plated as the colour wasn't quite as yellow as the de ville in comparison

but it being either tarnished or a variation of gold plate due to different alloys now makes sense. Thanks for your opinion & knowledge

I'd personally not polish it at all since it's plated. Some of the coloration could be due to brassing, which I assume would be made worse by polishing even gently. But then again I've never tried. Maybe I'm too cautious.

I’d use a jewellers cloth too.

A polishing cloth will remove tarnish. It won't cut through the plating. Just so you know since you've had zero experience.

Yeah, I'm sorry for my misunderstanding. It was late and I read "polish" and had a knee-jerk reaction. I need to just go to bed and stop reading the forum sometimes.

I agree with this, it's a very irresponsible advice to suggest polishing it, as the wear of the case matches the wear of the hands quite well

I think it could be rose gold plated or solid rose gold, as the indices appear red as well - a back photo would shed more light, and an inner caseback photo might shed even more light
