I would pass - looks real but too polished/refinished for my taste.

To me it looks like an old case back and a modern case front, the colour of the steel doesn´t seem to match. What also reinforces this in my mind is the corrosion to the inside case back and the new shininess of the case front. Doesn´t match at all.

I'd buy it if the price is right. How much is he asking?

I'm with cristos, looks like a new top case and a heavily polished used back.

One of the pictures has a 166.024 case-back; the other is 165.024

I think that is just the reflection playing games. The watchmakers marks seem to match.

Can't you find a true NOS replacement case on eBay any more?

Movement is a cal 552. IMO you might struggle with that unless you find and cannibalise one of the other Seamasters or Seamaster DeVilles that it also came in. I can't imagine there are many spare cal 552s which haven't already been hoovered up to put into these things but I may be wrong.

You'll obviously need a dial. I don't think Cousins has any of these left but you see them on eBay so you should be able to find one. Hands are available from Cousins.

Since it is a Frankenwatch I would not bother about the case back and case not matching..

That is a new case frame with an old back for sure. Hopefully you didn't pay a premium for it being "NOS" when it's just "new"

    Cheers, Al

If you do intend to dive with it, I can't say for sure if the black on the case back sealing surface is leftover gasket goop, or if it's pitting in the steel. Either way, just make sure you get a proper pressure test done before submerging the watch.

    Cheers, Al
