Hi all, I know that I should not reset the chrono while it is running. But it is ok for the caliber if I set the time and the chronograph is running?
I'm of two minds here. Glad to know the answer to the question. Worried about the sanity of the one asking.
@Hands90 In the first place I need this for my knowledge. @Archer Thank you very much. I am glad that a watchmaker give me an answer. @cincindela Haha :-D @flyingout I got my speedys now 1 year. But yesterday I have asked myself what is when I adjust the time during the chrono is running and found no answers at google. This is something I did not know and what is wrong with it to know all the details about your watch. In other forums I read about people which NEVER STOP the chrono... it is running all the time because they want a large second hand running.... so I asked myself too, do such people have to stop the chrono for setting the time.
Somewhat true, but a bit misleading... The full truth is... every time you do this, god takes away 1 min of your life and gives it to Keith Richards
Some watches have a tendency to STOP momentarily when turning the hands sdrawkcab! If you have a watch that would be inclined to do that, better find out before you set out to use the chronograph when accuracy is essential. You can test for this by starting the chronograph, then pulling the crown out to the hand setting position, and setting the minute hand Srdawkcab. If the sweep seconds hand continues to move forward, you're fine. BUT, if the sweep seconds hand stops, then BACKS UP, probably best to not be setting the time when using the chronograph. Some watches are equipped with a HACK which STOPS the watch when you pull the crown out to the set position. if you have a chronograph with a hack, DON'T set the hands with the chronograph timing something critica!
Thank you Canuck. I speak about the Speedmaster Pro. It has no second stop but a hack if you turn the crown counter clockwise (I think you know that already ). Because of the answer of Archer I tested it just. If I turn the crown clockwise the chrono second stutter. If I turn it counter clockwise the chrono hand stops or turn counter clockwise like the small second. This make sense because if I look at the saphire back I see that the chrono second wheel is pushed to the second wheel.
So, the conclusion might be that you are unlikely to do the watch any harm by setting the hands while the chronograph is operating, but if you were in your dark room, developing film, and using the chronograph for time sensitive stuff, don't be re-setting the time!
is it ok to change the time on my "current partner's" watch if i happen to notice it is slow by 3 minutes whilst we are having sex? because she didn't like it at all...
rrrrrrrriiiiiinnnnnngggggg! rrrrrrrriiiiiinnnnnngggggg! Alpha0Mega: "Hello?" Me (disguising my voice): "Hello sir. This is Abraham from the Perrelet School of Watchmaking. I was wondering if your chronograph was running." Alpha0Mega: "Yes, it is." Me: "Well, you better go catch it!" [giggles and snickers as the phone is hung up]
