Is it Me or Does 2.5mm Make a Big Difference? Speedy vs Sub

I was surprised side by side how much larger the Speedmaster looks when next to a Rolex Submariner. 42mm vs 39.5mm, what a difference a couple of millimeters make. Speedmaster also has a larger dial which adds to appearance of greater diameter. The Rolex looks heavier although it is only .7mm thicker, 14.7 vs 14.0. Definitely the Submariner’s bezel has something to do with giving the watch a heavier appearance.

Two of my favorites.

Bezel, dial size, lug thickness, crystal profile- they can all make a huge difference.

34mm Seamaster vs 39mm GMT

Omega actually appears larger at first blush

Maybe the same size at first blush because of the dial itself, but after that the GMT dominates.

Agreed- but it's just amazing how people get hung up on measurements negating the actual form factor of the watch. The 34mm Seamaster as an example is all dail. In a side by side against an OPD which has almost the exact case width, the Seamaster appears much larger simply becuase the dial is larger and bezel smaller.

It's why it always irks me a bit when someone says they can't wear anything smaller than xxx- have they tried it? And what style is it?? 34mm on a watch like the above SM is perfect, but on a bezeled diver- yeah, that's small.
