Couple of years ago we had frequently a thread with a 2915 or something else rare and beautiful. I even made jokes about the 2915 beeing the new ultraman. But last year was really quiet on OF regarding the rare watch departement. So where did they go? Did internet ruined everything? Knowledge is everywhere so why would you consult a group of nerds on the web? Or did the collectors took them all and put them in a dark cave where light does'nt come?

Did you miss Covid? Half the world was locked down. I doubt seriously many left their homes to look in barns.

I just hit 3 antique shops in very rural America today- lots of crap- $150 Caravell’s and $200 clapped out gold plated Bulova’s. I think the last hold-outs finally realized the internet was a thing.

They still happen, its just getting rarer to see 2915s or 2998s pop up, plenty of newer 321 Speedys and cool Connies / Seamasters though

Like every generational thing, they come in waves. Most one-owners were probably sold or rediscovered by now, prices may be peaking, market is maturing. You will have to be interested in 90s watches, to see the equivalent starting wave : good things bought by well off middle aged to older individuals in the 90s or even 2000s are starting to appear by now. The cold mathematics of time...
