Does this watch have a tropical dial?

Hello all

The serial number is 28425xxx, which is outside the range of tropical dial feature serial numbers (29xxxxxx).
The price is JPY398,000

My personal opinion of this watch
The bezel is a service bezel.
The indexes and hands are nice and nocturnal; they shine for a few seconds under UV light and then go dark for a few seconds.
The case is edgy and has some hairline marks, but it feels skinny and polished.
The bracelet is generic but looks good in my opinion. The end links are 516.

Other questions.
Is the bezel on this watch a DON bezel?
I checked the date of manufacture from the 'I love my Speedmaster' website from the serial of this watch and it was January 1970. if I were to get a 1039 bracelet, what is the date on the 1039 bracelet? Is it around 69/3 69/4 70/1 70/2 70/3?

Thanks for reading.

I don’t think it’s “tropical” in the traditional brown dial sense. However I do think it has a nice aged dial that may continue to change to a lesser degree than the “chocolate” dials.

I didn’t check if it is supposed to have a DON but the dial and case look great IMO. The lume is super consistent. And the case looks sharp to me. I’m not saying it wasn’t polished, but it looks like a watch that wasn’t abused for 50 years at the very least.

Not sure what the yen conversion is, but that’s a slick watch if you want a good looking -69 albeit if your’e set on a tropical I’d keep looking for something else.

I really like it a lot.
The dial starts to turn a slight brown. Lovely -69.
At that price, I would buy it !

Cheers.

It should definitely have a DON in that serial range. The current bezel is a service replacement with virtually no value. Discount several thousand USD. Otherwise, I like it.

Good looking watch, especially at this price. Whether it is tropical or not, it has an appealing dial body colour to me.

You might have noticed it comes with a bracelet that doesn't really match, but brings two 516 end-links as a bonus. These are worth quite a bit for people to complete their 1039 bracelets with... 😉 Could give you a small head start towards sourcing a nice DON to complement this piece, or a much easier way of getting a 1039 fitted as you already have the relatively harder to find end-links.

If you wouldn't buy it yourself; let others here know, I am sure this would be a great watch to stay in the OF family!

I'm looking forward to seeing how the dials change over time.
I agree with you about the dials and the case.
I bought it in Japan, so the price is in Japanese yen.

I really like it a lot.

A new project to find a DON bezel has been started.

The 516 end link was a small surprise.
The watch is already in the hands of a resident of the Omega Forum.

That dial!🥰🥰
This dial me too🥰🥰

Please help me if you know about the date of the 1039 bracelet. If I get a 1039 bracelet for this watch, do I not have to think about the date?

Definitely not tropical in my view, but a nice and honest looking Speedy. You got a decent deal at around $3,800USD, with the understanding that the watch will need a decent condition DON and potential service.

Congrats and wear it in good health.

Can even have different shades.

Wow, another nice clock.
I like how the color changes with the angle and amount of light hitting it.😲
