Is Grand Seiko getting better?

I love GS. It will always have a place in my heart. Embodiment of anti-Swiss. For those who are open-minded, GS provides quality watches, imbued with Japanese principles and philosophy, but with cheaper price tag. It's my first "serious" watch that I purchased.

My SBGJ003:

Great watch, the biggest thing I like about Grand Seiko are the dials and their design. They look so simple from afar but when you take a closer look you see such vivid designs like the snowflake.

Simply stunning watch and a great company.

Indeed. I love their dial and their case design. For dial, my fav are Mt. Iwate dial and snowflake, while for the case my fav are 44GS and 62GS

Very same here on terms of favourites, but I gotta say the Snowflake is my very most favourite.

I would definitely be getting the Seiko as my first watch IF I wasn't so very enchanted by the Omega GSOTM Meteorite and the so far unreleased Aventurine Blue side of the Moon.

I'll get a snowflake after either one of those. Have you ever tried you Seiko with a leather strap?

I plan to do that! Actually, I even already bought GS leather band and GS buckle, but don't have time to change it yet

Look at the release date of those... April 1st I believe.
Glad someone else also picked this up... I spend most of my time over on the Seiko forum at WUS and remember laughing my arse off when this came out for April Fools 😜

One thing I've personally noticed, I'm not sure if others will agree - grand seiko I think doesn't photograph that well, since so much of their allure and charm sits in the razor sharp polished edges, and how it works in motion. I've been generally a bit unimpressed with many Grand Seiko designs in photos/ads, but then when you handle and see it in person, only then can you see the full glory of the highly mirror-polished edges and how then glint in the light when you move the watch.

This applies to some other watches from other major brands too obviously, but for me none more so than GS!

I agree. Based on the polishing and the dial, I would say my GS looks better and sharper than my VC Patrimony

I agree with you but a talented photographer can take absolutely stunning shots. I can't find it now but a member took pics of their GS Snowflake and it was some of the best pics of a Snowflake I've seen.

I might be biased, but I think not many brands beat GS when it comes to finishing and quality feel.
Agree that they are incredibly hard to photo, but when you have one in your hand, examine it with a 10x loupe you are just blown away.

I tried (unsuccessfully I know 😜) to photo some of my GS through a loupe with my iphone (yep, had no macro lens on the camera) and while they do not represent the finish and quality mentioned above, I am still sharing them...

in order:
3180 (first generation, from 60s - carved dial)

I really like some of their hi-beat GMTs like the SBGJ217 and SBGJ225. I've never pulled the trigger for 2 main reasons - resale and lack of lume. Even my AP 15400 has lumed hands/hour markers, although you'd never know it until nighttime.

Fit and finish on them is superb and all my friends who have them have raved about the quality.

That case design is not new, I think GS is not necessarily getting better. People are just discovering it more.

Wore my Sbgw253 yesterday.
Couldn’t have said it better. The quality of GS has remained consistent since its inception

I’ll also add that for the price point, no one can match the quality of the dial, case and hands finishing

Careful there, otherwise you might get a frostbite 😜

those who own the snowflake = have you noticed that it is easy to get scratches, like more than normal?

I owned the snowflake for a while (I was not all sound when I sold it... I know)... but I almost feel the opposite, it was hard to scratch the titanium for me at least.

Same for mine. Titanium watches usually scratch more easily, but mine is in good shape.
