The lack of any caseback gasket whatsoever - not even a degraded one - kinda spooks me. Especially coming from the Pacific Northwest.... in addition to a bezel and probably some case work, I'll bet this will require an extensive (and expensive!) movement overhaul.

Dial does look nice though, can't tell if it's stepped thru the crystal but it probably is

Not this particular one. I was talking about watches there in general. It would be Omega Geneva with damaged crystal, no crown and described as non working but bids would be over $400.

This would make a great watch once the movement has been serviced, a bezel has been fitted and a new crystal is put on. Question is how much this will cost on top of the final selling price and if this will be more combined than just buying one finished. As they say, better to buy something good at a fair price than buy something rubbish cheap.

I'm unsure whether the gasket groove is badly pitted from corrosion or it's just the residue of a perished gasket. If it's mainly the latter, then, for someone with the correct bezel lying in their parts box, it looks like a good project at the current price ($1701 USD)

With prices for just a bezels are going nuts, that project would not be cheap.

Sold for $3,900---and since it's proxy bidding, we have no idea how high the winner's actual bid was (he could have put in a proxy bid of $4,300, but Goodwill only raised his bid high enough to beat the next highest bidder). I suspect we'll be seeing it on eBay for north of $6,000.

Seems insane that a straight writing in this condition sold for $3900. Can't imagine they could rehab this and get $6k, but then I couldn't imagine this one would sell above $3k.

I'm holding on to my straight writing (it has box and papers) for now. Was planning to sell it, but after seeing this, it has me scratching my head.

Good condition straight writings have been selling around $4000-4500 recently, so I wouldn't say this has been particularly well-bought but if he can get himself a DNN for $500 or so, he'll have a nice watch once it's serviced / crystal polished.
